Today the baseball world commemorates Jackie Robinson Day!
On 15th April 1947, Jackie Robinson broke baseball’s colour barrier, becoming the first African American to play in modern Major League Baseball, when he made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Robinson went on to be named Rookie of the Year that season, MVP in 1949, and in 1955 helped the Dodgers beat the New York Yankees to win the World Series.
In 1997, MLB retired Robinson’s uniform number, 42, across all MLB teams.
