A real pet hate of mine - is it driven by job security? - What if the "team lead" goes absent (accident/health) - What happens when you scale to a larger team? Make SIMPLE and CONCISE user docs EASILY FINDABLE and request updates to them in PR reviews x.com/petergyang/status/1575…

Forced to log back in here as I couldn't get into a third party web site which was authenticating with this account (not for much longer) because apparently twitter needed me to have a birth date associated with my account. If you aren't already doing so, follow me on #Mastodon.

While this site is fundamentally dead to me I felt it was worth coming to share this photo of a #RISCV tablet from @thepine64 which now has a viable basic KDE desktop OS image: Here it is running #NodeJS v20.5.1 and an early access build of #Temurin 21 😁😍

I really can't figure out what Musk is trying to do. Did he offer to buy Twitter as a joke and then got stuck when he couldn't back out so it's now a game? Is he keen to lose 'dead wood' users as well as employees? Or will his masterplan mean twitter is thriving in a year's time?

OK I finally get it. Elon wants to have his own version of The Apprentice at twitter and give them little tasks and fire the perceived weaker ones ... x.com/MikeIsaac/status/16281…

twitter has been attempting to build a direct response ads business for nearly its entire existence BUT they never had a one-week deadline to motivate them before…. theverge.com/2023/2/21/23609…

#retroGaming Having a clear out and found a copy of this Star Trek game for the early 80s #Dragon32 home computer. Must have been an early copy as it seems that it was renamed to Dragon Trek later presumably for copyright reasons. archive.worldofdragon.org/br…

The bottom line: If you're not stuck on JDK8 for a good technical reason, get yourself up to 17 (Ideally #Temurin πŸ˜† ) as soon as you can. It's a lot more efficient ...

Upgraded another service to JDK 17 and holy crap these out-of-the-box improvements in GC are 🀯

Did you know that Red Hat is the biggest company contributing fixes to the newly released JDK20 other than Oracle? Now you do! In addition, did you also know that @RedHatJava also leads the maintenance of the JDK8 and JDK11 LTS codebases that many people still use? #openjdk #java

Trying the new GPT-4: Welcome GPT-4, what is the most recent set of data you've trained on? "Hello! I'm actually ChatGPT, an AI language model developed by OpenAI, and not GPT-4. I am based on the GPT-3 architecture, and my training data goes up until September 2021." Hmmm.

Reducing open source software to pull requests and bug fixes neglects the hours of operational work it takes to run a project. There are people behind those efforts too.

Two failed @jenkinsci upgrades today. Both from 2.346.3 and using GitHub authentication. Anyone done an upgrade from that setup successfully? It's frustrating that Jenkins doesn't let you update plugins to "the last one that worked with my server version" before upgrading ...

Seeing this is the headlines today seemingly in contrast with previous findings. I've seen more colleagues struggling recently than before, more visible so in the post-lockdown phases. My second (probable, unverified) bout of COVID gave me a lot more problems than my first 😒

Sackings, kicking developers off the platform unless they pay, charging for verification, changing to allow trolls free-reign on the platform, and seemingly increasing reliability. What's the distinguishing feature of twitter now? Seemingly only that it has the large user base.

I'm baaack! I was in twitter timeout because the algorithm can't tell the difference between someone threatening harm to others or themselves & someone talking about common plots in a thread about TV detectives and crime novels. If only I didn't write about how tech can go wrong
