“Baker’s first book, HOW TO RULE THE WORLD is a rigorous, self-assured, propulsive, at times terrifying portrait of a dweebocracy that ‘sets the agenda for the planet.’”

I reported last month that @johnofa, one of the first partners at Andreessen Horowitz, left his role at the firm due to political disagreements with Marc Ben.
Today, he's expanding on that in a column in NYT.
"Some of the most powerful players in A.I. — led by some of my friends and former partners, to my great sadness — have raised hundreds of millions of dollars to forestall a more serious and meaningful debate about how A.I. should be governed."

An awesome review here from @FinancialTimes!
“As 21-year-old Baker describes in his engrossing coming-of-age book, Stanford’s Faustian bargain with extreme wealth has corrupted its soul.”
It’s “entertainingly” and “racily written,” describing a “remarkable investigation.”
Just finished. As a faculty at Stanford who followed your MTL reporting closely, this book simultaneously reminded me of a Stanford I knew while also opened a world of Stanford that I was unfamiliar. A spectacular book and incredibly well written — grateful for your reporting.
just finished @tab_delete’s incredible book on the “stanford within stanford” and associated silicon valley skulduggery—if the purpose of a system is what it does, then stanford is largely a tech talent funnel where the expression of dark triad behavior is encouraged from the highest levels
of course, the university is more than this, but its cultural placement upstream of other universities, silicon valley, and large steradians of the lightcone means that much more attention should be placed on intentionally crafting campus culture than is currently being done
Just so so so incredibly exciting and surreal to see this in print!!!
It’s a dream come true to be able to share this book with you and I’m beyond grateful to all of those who have been thoughtfully engaging with its content.

Amazingly, HOW TO RULE THE WORLD is on the NYT bestseller list for a second consecutive week! We also made it onto the monthly bestselling business books list!
Beyond excited to see people engaging with the book and so thankful to everyone who has found value in this story.
Thrilled and astonished to learn that HOW TO RULE THE WORLD is a NYT bestseller!
Incredibly grateful to the team @penguinpress for the last several years of tireless collaboration.
And a huge, huge thank you to everyone reading and engaging with this book. Wow!!
Almost finished with HOW TO RULE THE WORLD by @tab_delete, and it’s pretty damn great.
A must-read for comms people, both as an inside look at how investigative reporting actually works, and as a reminder of just how profoundly unhelpful we can be.
