Why Extended with fees is cheaper than 0% fee exchanges Extended lets vault deposits act as collateral, meaning your collateral earns yield while you trade with it. The same capital works twice. On 0% platforms, vault capital is locked and doesn’t offset trading costs, which are effectively paid through the spread. Here’s a real client example on Extended from last week: The client traded $4,800,000 in volume and paid $1,021 in fees. Their initial vault deposit was $162,088. Their vault yield for the week was ~$840. In reality it was slightly higher since yield and PnL from trading compounded daily and increased margin during the week, but we’ll use $840 for simplicity. Effective fee = fees paid minus yield received = 1,021 − 840 = $181. Dividing by volume gives an effective fee rate of ~0.0038%. Now add spreads: this client traded HYPE on Extended, where the average spread for this size was ~0.02%. So the total cost of execution on Extended was ~0.024%. On a 0% fee platform the cost comes only from spreads/slippage, and collateral doesn’t earn. For the same trader and size, the average spread on Lighter was ~0.04%. Result: 0.024% on Extended vs 0.04% on a 0% fee exchange. Extended ends up 2x cheaper not because fees don’t matter, but because collateral does. When your collateral earns, fees stop being the main cost. On 0% platforms, you still pay - just through spreads and idle capital.
