#Tigers keep rolling - Greene HR ignites 6-run first, bullpen does great job getting final 13 outs - Tigs make it two straight over Rockies with 7-4 win. The highlights:
-facing rookie Tanner Gordon, Tigers put together an impressive collection of hits in the first: Greene hit changeup for hist 21st HR to give Tigs 1-0 lead two batters in. Then it was Vierling LD single, Carpenter LD triple to make it 2-0...Tork two out single plated Carp, then - two batters later - Sweeney battled Gordon for 8 pitches...then hit a hanging slider deep to RF - 3-run HR made it 6-0. First 6-run first inning for Tigers since 2018....
-Mize started - and looked really sharp thru 4: used FB/splitter combination to strike out six, five swinging. but Mize gave up 2 singles to start 5th, K'd 7th batter, but then - with two outs - gave up a double and single to cut
#Tigers lead to 7-4 - and his night was done.
-Holton came on - got final out of 5th on foul fly down LF line that Greene made a great play on - battling the twilight sky, he ran to stands, made catch, fell into stands, hung on...just a great play.
-Holton got six outs to get game to Vest in 7th. Vest retired all four batters he faced, then Foley worked a routine 9th to pick up his 22nd save. Some numbers: Holton has now allowed just 2ER in his last 43 - 43! - innings going back to the end of June. Vest's fastball is electric every time out - he's K'd 19 in last 17.1IP (4ER), and Foley has not allowed an earned run in his last 16 innings - allowing just six hits.
-Tigers now 20-8 last 28G - go for sweep of Rockies Thurs afternoon. Tarik Skubal goes for his 17th win v. Rockies Ryan Feltner (2-10, 4.96ERA). 1:10 start - broadcast starts with the Manager's Show at 12:45.
