The Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is set to make train journeys faster, more frequent, and greener between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York, on a more reliable and cleaner railway. ๐Ÿš† With 70 miles of track being electrified, itโ€™s estimated that TRU will reduce the amount of carbon used to operate the railway by 6 million tonnes over the next 60 years. Which is the same as taking 6 million cars off the road for a year! โšก๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ TRU will also be creating over 8,000 jobs during construction, along with 590 apprenticeships and engaging with over 100,000 young people through an education programme. It's day 14 and our TRU West Alliance team have wrapped up their second week of upgrade work in West Yorkshire. ๐Ÿ™Œ We've battled tough, rainy weather conditions all week long and delivered a series of track renewals through Dewsbury and Batley which will mean faster, more reliable journeys for customers in the future. A number of overhead line equipment (OLE) masts have also been installed across the stretch of railway between Huddersfield and Leeds, which will carry the power lines for greener, electrified services. Station improvement work at Dewsbury has seen footbridge strengthening and the extension of the roof canopies, enhancing customer facilities. At Batley, work on the lifts - part of the brand-new footbridge - also continues, which will improve step-free access around the station upon its completion later this summer. The platforms at both stations are being extended, too, so that longer trains with more seats for customers will be able to stop there. ๐Ÿš‰ Customers have been kept on the move via diversionary routes and rail replacement buses thanks to our colleagues at Northern and TransPennine Express, in what has been another week of great collaboration from everyone across the TRU Enterprise. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ”— youtu.be/B1AkttDk2iA

TRU improvement works between Huddersfield and Leeds: Day 11 ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Last night our team at Deighton carried out soil nailing on the embankment by the station. This stabilises the ground so new track can be laid during a future phase of work - the tracks through the area will be doubled from two to four so that faster trains can overtake stopping ones, reducing journey times. ๐Ÿš… Please check before you travel at nationalrail.co.uk during this series of TRU improvement works. โ„น๏ธ

๐Ÿšง Week 1 Round-up: Dewsbury and Batley improvement works ๐Ÿš† Almost straight off the back of work throughout May, our TRU West Alliance team have taken to the tracks and stations for another series of upgrade works. ๐Ÿ’ช In Dewsbury, footbridge strengthening works are underway while we also improve customer facilities by extending the roof canopies. Platform extension work is also being carried out which means longer trains with more seats will be able to stop at the station in the future. ๐Ÿš† In Batley, we're infilling the old subway which was used to move between platforms. Now, a brand-new footbridge takes its place with work on the lifts ongoing for improved step-free access around the station. In just the first week of work we've renewed 0.7km of track, completed drainage works in Morley tunnel, and installed 14 overhead line equipment (OLE) masts, which will all support faster, more reliable, electrified services. ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Working alongside our Northern and TransPennine Express colleagues, customers have been kept on the move via diversionary routes - which TRU has invested ยฃ100m into - and rail replacement buses. It's been a huge collaborative effort from everyone across the TRU Enterprise this week as we deliver a better connected North to help support our regional economy. ๐Ÿ‘

Last weekend, the TRU team had an incredible time at York Pride 2026, celebrating alongside colleagues from @networkrail, @LNER, @northernassist, and @TPExpressTrains. It was fantastic to stand together, show our support, and be part of such a vibrant and inclusive event. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, joined the celebrations and helped make York Pride such a great day. Weโ€™re proud to support events that champion inclusion and look forward to being part of it again next year ๐ŸŒˆ
