ALT Social Protection Systems: By Whom and For Whom? 10:30AM-12:30PM NY time (EST) / 5:30-7:30PM Nairobi time. Our speakers: Hazel Birungi, Luba Melo and Zahrah Nessbit Ahmed. Noor is a global feminist and movement-driven think and do tank, devoted to building the power of gender justice and progressive movements to obstruct far right agendas, and advance our transformative visions.
ALT How do we imagine social protection systems as catered towards liberation? How can we strengthen feminist social protection systems in an emancipatory manner? What do people-centered mechanisms look like? We invite you to join us as we discuss the far-right cooptations of social protection programs and the ways these mechanisms now seek to further subjugation and patriarchal hegemony. This session aims to create a roadmap that entails different imaginaries of social protection systems that are nuanced and informed by global movements. This webinar will delve into the dynamic realm of social protection systems. While traditionally seen as a beacon of safety and security for marginalized communities, our discussion will uncover the complex reality where these systems can inadvertently perpetuate oppression. In recent years, we have seen how social protection mechanisms can sometimes morph into tools of punishment, unfairly targeting those deemed deviant by patriarchal structures.
We are excited to announce 30 available research fellowships at @huma_africa for doctoral, postdoctoral & visiting fellowships supported by @CarnegieCorp & @MellonFdn |
