It's also found in the saliva of some ticks. When a tick bites, it can transfer alpha-gal from its saliva into a person’s blood. AGS symptoms can include mild to severe allergic reactions about 2-6 hours after a person consumes an alpha-gal containing product.

A big thanks to @RepDerekSchmidt for cosponsoring the Alpha-gal Allergen Inclusion Act, which would add alpha-gal to the list of major food allergens. Thank you, Congressman Schmidt, the alpha-gal community could not be more grateful!

Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS), aka red meat allergy, is a serious, potentially life-threatening allergy to alpha-gal that can develop after some tick bites. To help healthcare providers identify and rapidly diagnose patients in the United States, CDC developed a free online training module. Check it out: bit.ly/alpha-gal-resources

Don't play Russian roulette. I can't tell you how many people have told me they can eat pork or venison, only to text me from the ER a few months later after reacting to it.

The lone star tick is inducing a red meat allergy known as alpha-gal syndrome. This fascinating article details the discovery, which linked the allergy to a cancer drug reaction. A growing Force Health Protection concern as the tick's range expands. the-scientist.com/the-alpha-…

As the lone star ticks geographic spread increases, so too will the cases of Alpha-gal syndrome “mammal meat allergy”.
New CDC map highlights dramatic expansion of lone star tick's range. Wherever lone star ticks are established, they tend to outcompete and replace black-legged ticks. This is going to change the face of tick-borne disease in North America. 1/

Every state should be tracking Alpha-Gal. Great job Virginia! #TicksSuck
Virginia will begin tracking alpha-gal syndrome, a tick-borne condition causing delayed allergic reactions to meat and other mammalian products, as awareness grows about this emerging health concern. wtvr.com/news/local-news/alp…

🚨 Shocking news from Martha’s Vineyard: “Last year, out of 1,254 tests for Alpha Gal, 523 came back positive, according to lab data from Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. This was a stunningly fast rise from 2020, when only 2 out of 9 tests were positive.” 💣
