4. Whilst mouth care reduces infection, it also supports oro motor control, provides routine to the day along with ADL rehab, maintains dignity and comfort and so much more!

This week we have:
✅ Trained 23 staff in oral hygiene
✅ Visited 5 care homes
✅ Completed 29 oral hygiene reviews
✅ Implemented 11 oral hygiene care plans
✅ Completed 2 SCD referrals
And brushed lots of teeth!

If you are unsure about Mouthcare for your NBM patients, or concerned about harming your patient, ask for support from your nursing, SLT or dentist colleagues. Patients who are NBM are particularly at risk of dry, sore mouths #MDTApproach #EveryMouthCounts

If you are concerned about patient hypersensitivity impacting on Mouthcare, request a referral to Speech & Language Therapy. SLT can implement desensitisation programs if appropriate #MDTApproach #EveryInterventionCounts 🪥🦷👄

How many of our trache care home residents have had a dental review in the last 3 years? Our recent audit revealed the number = 0! Local Special Care Dentistry units accept refs for complex patients provide much needed dental review 🦷🪥 @thetracheteam #EveryMouthCounts

There is no requirement for specialist equipment when delivering mouth care. SLS free toothpaste is readily available and cheap to buy. Oral suction and standard tooth brushes can be used. #EveryMouthCounts #MDTApproach #EveryInterventionCounts

🪥🦷 Denture poll results!!! I'm pleased to see that none of our respondents use a toothbrush with dentures or soak in denture solution overnight 👏 however... 50% use toothpaste with a denture brush. Toothpaste is also an abrasive and can cause scratching and remove enamel...
