Today, @IJ filed a cert petition asking #SCOTUS to hear our First Amendment case challenging Mississippi's near total ban on advertising medical marijuana. If a product is legal, it should be legal to talk about that product. ij.org/press-release/supreme…

Counterpoint: what if I'm a huge dipshit? In that case, I might find it interesting.

There’s absolutely nothing interesting about a Yale Law grad at a prestigious law firm married to a Stanford MBA management consultant moving to DC in 1995 and 30 years later living in a house now worth $2.4M

Due process is important, even if it protects bad people.
Today, the first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, arrived in our country. They were immediately transferred to CECOT, the Terrorism Confinement Center, for a period of one year (renewable). The United States will pay a very low fee for them, but a high one for us. Over time, these actions, combined with the production already being generated by more than 40,000 inmates engaged in various workshops and labor under the Zero Idleness program, will help make our prison system self-sustainable. As of today, it costs $200 million per year. On this occasion, the U.S. has also sent us 23 MS-13 members wanted by Salvadoran justice, including two ringleaders. One of them is a member of the criminal organization’s highest structure. This will help us finalize intelligence gathering and go after the last remnants of MS-13, including its former and new members, money, weapons, drugs, hideouts, collaborators, and sponsors. As always, we continue advancing in the fight against organized crime. But this time, we are also helping our allies, making our prison system self-sustainable, and obtaining vital intelligence to make our country an even safer place. All in a single action. May God bless El Salvador, and may God bless the United States. 🇸🇻🤝🏼🇺🇸

I'd be so embarrassed if I posted this, I would change my name and go into hiding

In my initial run, which processed the first 60,000 rows, I did not find these awards—my hard drive overheated long before I could complete a full pass through the database. In a later run, which I referenced in another post, I did identify two such awards. That discrepancy is a matter of sampling size, not an issue with the query itself. I’ll now attempt a full run, which should capture the awards you found.

With prosecutors like this on the prowl, you want a good solid right to a public and adversarial jury trial. Which we have on paper and used to have in reality—but those days are long gone.
Pitch-perfect response to Interim U.S. Attorney Ed Martin from @GeorgetownLaw Dean Bill Treanor. It’s always a privilege and honor to be part of the GULC community (and to be Bill’s colleague), but *especially* today.

The guy who hasn’t stopped whining about every slight and insult ever directed at him thinks it’s totally weird that Zelensky talks too much about the guy who ordered the murder and rape of thousands of his countrymen.
BREAKING: Trump says Zelensky needs to: ”stop talking about Putin this and Putin that. All negative things”

Genuinely bizarre that @DanielJHannan thinks this is true: "More than 200 years have passed since David Ricardo proved, as a matter of mathematics, that free trade always benefits the weaker and the stronger participants." The idea that mathematics could possibly prove such a thing is itself nonsensical and gets to the deeper failure of market fundamentalism. Anyway, I enjoyed debating him on all this last week, you can watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=q5Vpo-fI…

This isn't great, but "if fired will you leak secrets to our enemies" might be the kind of thing we should consider asking when hiring people in the CIA. If the CIA is a bunch "job for life" untouchables, isn't this just admitting the Deep State™ is real & *super dangerous*?

I read the rest of the thread (and will read more as it's posted), but I usually would have just checked out here.
Reported treatment effects are GIGANTIC. 2.5 sd in India! Never seen anything that large before.

Now that Joy Reid's terrible program has been cancelled, can we remember one last time how she explained away a series of homophobic blog posts by claiming that people hacked space-time and planted them (or something equally stupid) -- and got away with it! Good riddance, clown.

My smooth brain struggled immensely with regex when I first encountered them. The R pkg {rebus} helped demystify by breaking them down into little blocks you could play with like a toddler. A little bit of time with that and everything clicked. Easier regex is a noble goal!

Regular expressions are an extremely powerful form of structured generation, but they can be a pain to write. NO LONGER Thanks to @remilouf for pulling together excellent tooling to write simpler regular expressions. Update to Outlines v0.2.0 and give it a shot

After watching the 60 min interview with those German prosecutors (and others) about their joy at the death of free speech, does anyone have a good way I can tell each and every one of them to go fuck themselves? Thanks in advance!

To help the special ed community, the laws around special ed need to be simplified. Parents shouldn't have to know the secret words to get services. Parents shouldn't need a lawyer to unlock a proper education for their kids. No kid should be educated in a basement.

When you say “cartel-linked organizations,” does that include the ATF?
I'll be introducing the "Cartel Marque and Reprisal Authorization Act of 2025" which would authorize @realDonaldTrump to commission privately armed and equipped individuals or groups to seize persons and property of any cartel, cartel member, or cartel-linked organization.

For the love of all that is holy, make your intervals transparent. What's the point in adding uncertainty intervals if you can't even see them. C'mon, man.
This is consistent w/ surveys using "feeling thermometers" to measure how "warmly" or "coldly" Americans feel about Jews. In the 2024 ANES, young people reported feeling significantly "colder" toward Jews than older people, regardless of their political ideology.
