DID YOU KNOW... LBJ March 31, 1968 announcement he wasn't running for reelection was made during a 40-MINUTE TV address. And his surprise line "I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your President" was made during the 39th minute

Why don't more federal agencies tout their economic impact like NASA? People think of a NASA investment much differently than, say, a DOT investment...
25 Apr 2023
NASA research has led to the development of 2000 commercialized products and services (called "NASA spin-off technologies") including: • Invisalign • CAT Scans • Baby formula • Memory foam • Home insulation • Computer mouse • Ear thermometer • Freeze-dried food • Cell phone cameras • Scratch-resistant lenses • Water-purification (for pools) • Athletic shoes (shock absorbers) • Black & Decker Dustbuster vacuum There have been so many spin-offs that NASA has a web portal and print publication to catalog them. The portal also says these 3 famous examples — Tang, Velcro, Teflon — were *not* made by NASA.

The wheels of government moved at warp speed and settled a global banking crisis in less than 77 hours. Yet people think it wasn't fast enough. 🤦‍♂️
THESIS: The 77 hours from noon on Friday to 6pm on Sunday were very, very long hours when a lot of people worked themselves up in to a panic that could have been averted if Treasury and the Fed had made their announcements on Friday afternoon.

Just one of many examples of where folks discredit govt institutions, only to realize we need them in a crisis.
A dimension to this story that we can’t forget. Many of the leading folks in the industry that now wants Powell to step up and protect them spent the last 5 years telling lies and breeding cynicism about the Fed as pretext to sell cryptocurrencies to retail bagholders.

I've been covering this story basically since I came to @GovExec (and will cover it to the end, don't worry), but the process started when I was in middle school, which kind of blows my mind

How did this never come up in Russian classes on Stalin at JMU?! cc @ternary_logic
70 years ago today, Stalin died. The first American to learn of his death was Johnny Cash: faroutmagazine.co.uk/johnny-… At least, that's what I want to believe.

I think this is actually true. Social influence and projection of power becoming a bigger part of the formula
Replying to @bmorrissey
Used to be very different. Leading militias meant a lot of time training at the monkey bars. Now it’s about building the brand.
