turned to x for up-to-date, community-generated #hurricanemilton news this week & got so much ai slop / cognitive overload determining validity, that I went back to watching tv for more accurate weather clips. one less reason to check x. guess I’m just here for ar/vr updates now.

had a facetime with another apple vision pro in immersive mode this weekend. updates to personas are looking pretty good. love the blended fade to reality on necks & arms. probably best experience of avatar-based copresence i’ve had on a face wearable 💯 sadly couldn’t screencap

excited to see this released! got to demo an earlier version of ‘body of mine’ at @filmgatemiami interactive media festival last year & it was a powerful experience. congrats @c_kostopoulos & @ibrews / @agilelens 🕶️🏳️‍🌈
Perfectly timed for Pride Month, thrilled that today marks the public release of Body of Mine, the first LGBTQ experience on the Meta Quest App Store. It’s been an honor for @AgileLens to work w/ @c_kostopoulos & co the past 6 months to bring this to a wider audience. Thread 👇

😵 just happened to my company-issued avp. always handled with care, never dropped, but when I took it out of its case the other day, which hadn’t been moved since it was last used, I noticed a crack on the glass front screen. glass was a bad choice, apple wired.com/story/apple-vision…

interview w/ patient #1 of neuralink’s brain computer interface. enjoyed hearing nolan’s take (around 30m in) on deciding to go through the procedure, progress he’s made on controlling a cursor with his mind & reconfiguring BCI after a shift in the wiring podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

something i would have never guessed to have happened, has happened. i have always used a mac for most or all work, even with a secondary windows machine. my current job is the first one where i’ve ever had a windows machine only. after 3 months, i’m finding i prefer windows 🙃

.. there are obvious benefits to windows. for instance hololens app dev — good luck making that work on a mac. every time i’ve used windows in the past was to make something possible or at a minimum easier. but these days i am preferring the user interface, trackpad, display 😮

the corner of our home recently became home to a beehive. a thermal camera revealed activity in the ceiling. would be nice if head-mounted display IR cameras could support thermal imaging. i can think of a few killer augmented reality app ideas, including one killer bee app 🕶️🐝

.. explanation as to why this is not possible via hmd built-in ir cams: “Active IR systems use short wavelength infrared light.. Thermal imaging systems use mid- or long wavelength IR energy. Thermal imagers are passive, and only sense differences in heat” flir.com/support-center/oem/…

.. however apparently it’s possible to use an external thermal imaging camera w/ an hmd to render a spatial thermal heat map. i love the term “thermal reality.” wonder when we’ll see internal thermal cameras for hmds. other use-cases: medical, military sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
