A proposed Federal class action lawsuit filed in California against Pharmavite, LLC, the parent company of Nature Made, alleges that the brand’s popular Prenatal Multivitamin Folic Acid DHA Softgels contain unsafe levels of toxic plastic chemicals and endocrine disruptors. Driven by data from an independent research initiative known as PlasticList, the complaint asserts that third-party testing uncovered numerous synthetic compounds—including Bisphenol A (BPA) and multiple types of phthalates— which are believed to have leached from the plastic packaging into the softgels.
Plaintiff’s argue that these findings directly contradict Nature Made’s prominent marketing and “clean label” claims promoting the supplements as safe and beneficial for developing fetuses, infants, and pregnant mothers.
The lawsuit seeking monetary damages and an injunction relies heavily on consumer protection violations and false advertising laws, I want to emphasize financial injury from deceptive labeling rather than documented physical injuries or birth defects.
In response to the growing legal and public scrutiny, Nature made released a statement maintaining it’s prenatal products are completely safe, rigorously verified, and fully compliant with both FDA regulations and strict California Proposition 65 standards.
