Este video emitido por la televisión inglesa ( ITVX) es perfecto porque visualiza en 3D el verdadero dolor de cabeza de los jinetes: la tremenda montaña rusa que es Epsom Downs.

Final post in a thread of three on this subject…. If the proportion of racing’s income from bookmakers in 2026 was the same as it was in 2016 (62.5%) total prize money would be £265m - an uplift of 36% or £70m. However there has never been any agreement in place as to how this income should be distributed with the result that participants share has dropped from 62.5% to 45% with “others” retaining the 17.5%. The result is a spiral of decline with Owners exiting followed by Trainers and Breeders. The only way to reverse this is to restore the % paid to participants and agree how this will be shared in the future. Fair distribution is the only way to create a sustainable sport which is not what we have at the moment. I stress again that I cannot vouch for the precise accuracy of the numbers I quote, they are ChatGPT’s best efforts to navigate the lack of transparency we are subjected to but they correlate with betting industry figures. Either way we need to come together to sort this urgently - all lose on the current trajectory. Don’t think we have time to wait for a new Chair to start at BHA which doesn’t look like happening this year. Let’s make the discussion happen now
The NHF @Southwell_Races yesterday was worth 25% more than the same race in 2016. Over the same period the minimum wage cost for 21-25yo’s has risen by 83% and the cost of feed by approx 65%. These are core costs for trainers but don’t forget ERNIC, energy etc which have also risen exponentially. To an extent this is reflected in increased fees but poor returns is why Owner base is shrinking followed by the Training & Breeding industries. Over the same time period the total income from the betting industry to racing (levy, media rights and sponsorship) is estimated to have risen from £220m to £425m ( £205m). Total prize money in 2016 was £137.6m and in 2025 was £195m ( £57.4m). Surely Prize Money should have risen in line with income from bookmakers? The reality appears to be a shortfall of approx £150m which is why participants feel shortchanged and are wondering where all the money is going? (Figures not guaranteed to be 100% accurate but they tell the story of why we are where we are)

Derby winners have sired 31 G1 winners in Australia this century. Slipper winners have sired 13. Winners of 199 Group races overall against 164. Epsom shaping Australian racing more than our Slipper.

Another day and another good trainer packs up. Sensible for Noel but sad for the sport, the only way to turn the sport round is radical reform of prize money to create sustainability at all levels. Noel’s last winner would have earned £1917 for the Owner… says it all, completely unsustainable and the horses simply won’t be there in the future if this doesn’t change

Aidan O'Brien on how horse racing must evolve 🗣️ "Racing has to get involved in all the social media stuff and get it out there to everybody. We need to keep showing young people how amazing this sport of ours is. What's controlling everybody's minds at the moment is what's on their phones. X, Instagram, TikTok and all the various different things young people look at on their phones. That's what builds the imagination of our young people now. "Look, it's not politically correct to say this, but let people have a bet and let them enjoy having a bet and feel what it's like to back a winner. You don't have to drink alcohol or take drugs to get that feeling because none of those things can give you that feeling of backing a winner. "You have an opinion, you stand by your opinion, you then go and feel the adrenaline rush. If you get beaten you're disappointed, but you try to improve. But when you start working it all out and start getting it right, it's that feelgood factor that people need so badly in their lives. "Everyone is working so hard day in and day out so everyone needs a little escape and racing gives people a very clean, decent escape. "The betting is so controlled now that if someone is getting into trouble because of betting, it is picked up on very quickly. Don't be taking away these things that can make people feel better. Obviously, it can make people feel bad, but there are so many ways to help those people now. "We have a positive story to tell in racing, so we need the young people to hear about it."
⭕️ THE BIG READ ⭕️ 🗣️ "People think I say things to boost up horses. I don't. Ever. I only say what I think at the time. Maybe I'm a bit of a dreamer" @DavidJenningsRP talks to Aidan O'Brien 25 years on from Galileo Read with Racing Post 👇

One of the rare stallions to have covered mares during his racing career On Saturday at Bordeaux, Pink Panthera (Chachnak) won her Listed race against the colts and will now head to the Prix de Diane. Her sire, Chachnak, has the unusual distinction of having alternated between stud duties and racing throughout his career. He covered mares every year from 2021 to 2026 while still racing, making four starts in 2022 and even winning twice that season. Starting from a relatively modest book of mares, Chachnak has stood out. He has already sired 28 winners and four black-type performers from 41 runners. Following the encouraging signs shown by his first crops, the stallion is set to cover around 100 mares this year. His majority owner, Jean-Pierre Dubois — often described as the John Magnier of trotting — has received offers to sell him abroad, but has so far turned them down.

This week on Karl Weekly. The Budget’s repercussions continue. Small business gets slugged again – GST, payroll tax, CGT… and now a so-called 'death tax'. They call it fairness. Business owners are calling it exactly what it is. Karl Weekly live now – link in bio.
