Lovely anecdote about Margaret Stokes ringing a bell from a round tower!
26 Apr 2023
The word CLOICTHECH 'round tower' is actually made up of CLOC 'bell' TECH 'house' 🔔 Only hand-bells survive from early Ireland, but in the 19thC Margaret Stokes rang a dinner bell from the top of a round tower and it was heard half a mile away!

A wonderful reference to the Old Countess of Desmond, who lived for a time at Dromana House, Co. Waterford. And reputed friend of Sir Walter Raleigh
#ThroughHerEyes Here's one to try. In the 16th C, Francis Bacon said the reason Irish people lived so long was that they basted themselves in salt butter and sat naked before a fire! He was speculating on how the famous Old Countess of Desmond had lived to 140.
