The Ulm 5 arrived in court yesterday in handcuffs for the sixth day of their trial. Despite months of detention and serious charges linked to their pro-Palestine activism, they remained in high spirits as a packed courtroom gathered in solidarity.

Credit where it's due: Greens MP Sue Higginson @SueHigginson_ is doing exactly what elected representatives should be doing — asking hard questions, demanding accountability and refusing to look the other way when institutions fail. It was Sue Higginson who lodged the complaint that led to the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission investigation into the NSW Police response into the death of Lindy Lucena. Without that complaint, would the public ever have learned the full extent of what happened? We may never know. The findings were deeply disturbing. A woman reported as being violently assaulted. Delays. Missed opportunities. Two police vehicles entering the very area where evidence suggests Lindy Lucena may still have been alive, then leaving without either officer getting out to investigate. Yet somehow the conclusion was that no individual failures amounted to serious misconduct! Like many Australians, I find that conclusion extraordinarily difficult to understand and accept. Having worked alongside Lee Rhiannon years ago, I saw firsthand the willingness of some Greens representatives to take on issues others would rather avoid. Sue Higginson appears cut from the same cloth. She has consistently pushed for greater police accountability, greater transparency and better oversight when things go wrong. I'd genuinely like to hear Sue Higginson's response to the LECC report. Because if a chain of failures ending in a woman's death does not raise profound questions about accountability, then what does? Thank you, Sue Higginson, for refusing to let these issues disappear quietly. Australia needs more politicians prepared to ask difficult questions on behalf of the public. #SueHigginson #NSWPolitics #PoliceAccountability #JusticeForWomen #NSWPolice
