I never thought I'd write about getting an IUD, let alone for @NEJM, but I did. During the Kavanaugh hearings I saw ugly, ugly power pushing down & down but I also looked up to see an immense, glittering kind of strength at every turn. nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…

Putting this out into the #narrativemedicine #medhum #physicianwriters world: I need a writing partner/group! Is anyone working on projects and interested in a more committed "help-each-other-with-revisions-and-accountability" sort of deal?

When my father’s father died, I realized with aching shock that I had never learned his name. Learning more about him taught me much about my own dad. It feels a dream to see this published in @The_Rumpus Happy Father’s Day, all. therumpus.net/2024/06/07/gra…

Every time a patient asks me a question I think is obvious, I remind myself what I must sound like at the car mechanic.

NEW @AnnalsofIM: Redlining keeps perpetuating inequity. We found a DOSE-DEPENDENT correlation between discriminatory HOLC designations & incidence of firearm fatalities. TODAY, firearm fatalities are >5X more likely to occur in areas designated "hazardous" v "best" 80 yrs ago

Academia would be healthier if more professors were empowered to focus on teaching, rather than producing work they don't care about for journals nobody reads. We are incentivized to prioritize the part of our jobs that matter least, cutting corners on the part that matters most.
