Jesuit priest, Fr. Peter Ryan SJ, visited his brother William, a Fidei Donum priest from Washington, at his missionary parish in Togo, West Africa. During the visit, a delegation from an important family arrived. They had decided to renounce their ancestral idol and asked Fr. William to destroy it. Several neighboring families joined them. The big day began with a Mass, followed by a procession of hundreds of people from the church to the houses. There, holy water and exorcised salt were used. Fr. Peter enthusiastically smashed the idols with a sledgehammer before burning the remains. The faithful sang โ€œYesu enye dzidula! (Jesus is the victor!). Finally, the pagan shrine was demolished and a large cross was placed in the middle of the rubble. in gloria.tv

He's simply repeating what our theologians say
Pope just dropped the biggest change in Church teaching in a very long time, and he did so mid-flight.

โ€œSin is only mentioned three times in this documentโ€ฆ. How is this a Church document?โ€ @RobertSRoyal @GeraldMurray8 and I analyze Pope Leoโ€™s new encyclical. See the full episode here: youtu.be/q9e7hLISzbA?si=jiT0โ€ฆ

Sin is mentioned zero times in the following sampling encyclicals by traditional popes, demonstrating that mentioning sin is in no way necessary: Pius X: Lacrimabili statu Pascendi Dominici gregis Gravissimo officii munere Pius XII: Meminisse iuvat Quaemadmodum vatican.va/content/pius-xโ€ฆ vatican.va/content/pius-xโ€ฆ vatican.va/content/pius-xโ€ฆ vatican.va/content/pius-xโ€ฆ vatican.va/content/pius-xโ€ฆ

Love ought to be warm if not wholly enflamed, for God. Hence why being mechanistic in prayer is so unwittingly egregious. Being unfocused and only praying, attending mass, receiving the sacraments by "going through the motions" of regular habit is tepid. Cold. Limp and loveless.

I am always struck by this part of blessed Job mystically prefiguring the suffering of the Messiah; the fathers also comment on this

If you are inclined to speak openly about theology, or at least spend your time studying such matter, it is almost more imperative than it is for the average person that you spend time in prayer. If you have an abysmal prayer life, fix that first before opening your mouth.
