Jesuit priest, Fr. Peter Ryan SJ, visited his brother William, a Fidei Donum priest from Washington, at his missionary parish in Togo, West Africa. Love ought to be warm if not wholly enflamed, for God. Hence why being mechanistic in prayer is so unwittingly egregious. Being unfocused and only praying, attending mass, receiving the sacraments by "going through the motions" of regular habit is tepid. Cold. Limp and loveless.
