An editor should *lead* the discussion, not just observe it. They should *not* simply ask the reviewers to read each others' reviews. *They* should read the reviews, draft the meta-review, then ask the reviewers to comment on it. I wrote a thread on this: x.com/usabart/status/1569303…
1/ Dear meta-reviewers (ACs, senior PCs) of conferences/journals with a discussion period: asking the reviewers to “please read each others’ reviews and come to an agreement” is not a great way to start the discussion. Its your job to provide a starting point! A thread 🧵:
A reviewer should give the editor reasons to accept or reject the paper (ideally both). The editor likely doesn't read the paper, so the review should be *detailed*. Also, the reviewer should participate in the discussion! Esp. if they gave the paper a neutral/borderline score.
Aaaand here’s why my Twitter and Facebook feeds got a lot more palatable after I blocked every reactionary lib who put “je suis hebdo” in their tagline in 2015.

It’s so interesting to see which societies are normal and which societies are full of whiney little babies who are too selfish to do the bare minimum to protect themselves and others.

My version of red-pilling is when I teach people the Boston Tea Party was triggered by England *LOWERING* the tea tax, and the Sons of Liberty were the wealthiest Boston businessmen who made their money smuggling and didn't want the competition.
