Individual gun owners and firearm‑rights organizations have filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan challenging the constitutionality of the state’s firearm license‑to‑purchase and pistol registration scheme. The suit names Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Michigan State Police Director Colonel James Grady II, and several local law‑enforcement agencies responsible for administering license‑to‑purchase applications. Plaintiffs include Michigan Gun Owners (MGO), Michigan Gun Coalition for Responsible Owners (MCRGO), Michigan Open Carry (MOC), and the National Rifle Association of America (NRA). The complaint alleges that Michigan’s licensing and reporting requirements violate the Second and Fourteenth Amendments and cannot be justified under the historical standard laid out in the Supreme Court case New York Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. “Michigan cannot require law‑abiding citizens to obtain a discretionary government permission slip before exercising a fundamental constitutional right,” said MGO attorney James Makowski. The suit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief blocking enforcement of the challenged statutes, as well as the deletion of firearm‑ownership records maintained by the state. Case: Moser et al. v. Nessel et al. Court: U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan Case No.: 1:26-cv-01850

We are saddened to hear of the passing of World War II Veteran Robert Watson of Hamilton, OH, on May 30, 2026. He was 100 years old. Watson was a member of the Montford Point Marines, known as the first African American Marines to serve the U.S. As a corporal with Platoon #243 in the 4th Marine Ammunition Company, Watson served in the Pacific near Guam during World War II. Although it took decades for their contributions to receive formal recognition, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2013 as an Original Montford Point Marine. Watson returned home after the war and married Annacille Robinson. In 1951, Robert began his career at General Electric as a laboratory technician, laying the foundation for a remarkable professional journey. A decade later, in 1962, he achieved another historic milestone by passing the Ohio Professional Engineering Exam—likely becoming the first Black resident of Hamilton to earn this distinction. At General Electric’s Evendale Airplane Engines Division, Robert’s talent, dedication, and leadership propelled him through the ranks. His accomplishments culminated in recognition as Manager of Installation and Configuration Design, a testament to his expertise and perseverance. Rest in peace, Sir! We thank you for your service! #WeRememberThem #BlackVetsCount

His name is Ethan Walker. And if you ask him what the most important job in the world is, he won’t say logger. He’ll say: “Being Cody’s dad.” Every morning long before sunrise, Ethan climbs into a logging machine deep in the forests of Oregon. The work is hard. The days are long. The weather doesn’t always cooperate. His hands are rough, his boots are worn, and by the end of every shift his body aches from hours of cutting timber and hauling logs. But Ethan never complains. Because every tree he cuts, every hour he works, and every mile he drives home is for one reason. His son. Seven years ago, Ethan’s life changed forever when little Cody was born. Not long after, life became even harder. Cody’s mother left when he was still a baby, leaving Ethan to raise him alone. Friends wondered how he would manage. Some thought the pressure of being a full-time logger and a full-time dad would be too much. There were nights Ethan barely slept. Days when money was tight. Weeks when he worked overtime just to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. But every time he looked at Cody, he found a reason to keep going. He learned how to braid school projects together, pack lunches, help with homework, and still make it to work before dawn. He became both father and mother. Provider and protector. And somehow, through all the struggles, Cody never doubted how loved he was. Today, standing beside the logging equipment where Ethan has spent countless hours working for their future, Cody turns seven years old. Seven years of bedtime stories. Seven years of muddy boots waiting by the front door. Seven years of hugs that make every hard day worth it. As coworkers gathered around to celebrate, Ethan wrapped his arm around his little boy and smiled. Not because life had been easy. But because life had given him Cody. And in Ethan’s eyes, that little boy isn’t just his son. He’s his greatest achievement. His biggest blessing. His reason to keep going. His whole world. ❤️ Happy 7th Birthday, Cody. 🎂🎉
