With 80 anti-racist and migrant rights organisations, we've written to @Keir_Starmer asking for Parliament to be recalled to address the scale of this crisis. The new govt must change the dial, and foster zero tolerance for far-right, racist and anti-migrant narratives.

Anyone with eyes can see the difference between these violent, tanked up, racist, vigilante rioters and ā€˜protesters’. Could those in the police and the media still using that description please just stop being so untruthful?

It might be worth more accurately reflecting what is actually happening, rather than simply describing it as ā€œviolent disorderā€ why aren’t you also describing the racially motivated attacks and risks of public lynching happening seemingly at random up and down the country.
Govt’s emergency Cobra group meeting this morning at 10 after violence over the weekend No 10 sees it as chance to bring senior police around table to discuss next steps Home Secretary pledging ā€œreckoningā€ for rioters and those whipping up tensions online

You underplaying what is happening is contributing to a narrative that this is just ā€œdisorderā€ when brown black communities everywhere are increasingly living in fear for their lives. You have a job to reflect the facts not pander to manufactured concerns about immigration.

.@BBC insisting on reporting racist rioters as 'protestors' and 'demonstrators' is a gross misrepresentation of the violence impacting communities of colour across the UK. Language matters.
ā€œProtestsā€. You keep saying ā€œprotestsā€ @BBCNews - do you mean white supremacists are on the streets terrorising Muslims? What exactly are they ā€œprotestingā€ against?

This is key šŸ‘‡ High prices are ALREADY baked in, and the energy price cap is set to rise again this winter. Whoever wins the election will urgently need to set out plans to support households this winter, alongside permanent solutions to bring down bills.
Inflation down to 2% is positive news. But food prices still c 32% higher vs 3 years ago, energy price cap c 50% higher. Economy returning to 'normal' but a normal with much higher costs for essentials. And currently a normal that bakes in appalling levels of hunger & hardship.

Diane Abbott, MP Hackney North. Ousted in purge of left. Trailblazer, socialist, champion of workers, scourge of gig economy bosses. Emma O'Dwyer, Labour Hackney North member/activist. Former Labour SPAD now Uber's head of "Labour Relations", oppresser of workers. Just sayin'.

Hugely significant intervention by @EuroParlPress. #Amazon lobbyists BANNED from the EU Parliament following the company's failure to appear at a key labour hearing. Time to have a wider convo about eliminating corporate influence and access to policy elites. #BizHumanRights
Amazon’s lobbyists will be banned from the European parliament. The access badges that let Amazon lobbyists on the premises will be withdrawn. The move comes after Amazon repeatedly refused to engage on workers’ rights and labor conditions. ft.com/content/11d20273-71e8…

India’s largest maritime union has announced that they refuse to load weapons destined for israel. This is a landmark achievement for workers and unions, India as a country and humanity as a whole. Let this be a reminder that not all of India supports israel.

Seriously people - look at what's happening in terms of GDP/capita (which is what ultimately matters for our living standards). This is a proper recession just being hidden by having more people - GDP/capita declined 0.7 per cent in 2023 with falls in every single quarter

Three years ago, I wrote in @guardian about the fiscal fundamentalists in power, denouncing their 'maxed out card' as bad macroeconomics, pro-capital distributional politics Starmer's labour now clearly in that camp.
As Labour drops its pledge to spend £28bn a year on green investments, Sir Keir blamed the party's major U-turn on the Conservatives' 'reckless' plans to 'max out on the government credit card' after doing 'terrible damage to our economy'
