What happened when I pointed Ansible playbooks that automate deployment of OpenShift clusters on z/VM, at a z/OS system with the new zCX Foundation for Red Hat OpenShift? linkedin.com/pulse/zcx-found… #openshift #zos #zcx #ansible #ibm #redhat

It’s still Thursday somewhere! #HugYourMainframeDay This is me with a z14, and my laptop at FL370 doing zPDT and #zVM. Also my P/390 card, which will always be *my* mainframe! #IBMZ #mainframelife

August 2, 1972 VM/370 was announced. I was in Mrs. Isaac's class at Salford Hills Elementary, so I wasn't there, but it changed my life. Happy Birthday #zVM

Remember that meme about the ā€œtwo states of every programmerā€; where one was likening oneself to a deity and the other was a dog at the keyboard? That’s been me lately, from one moment to the next. Today it’s been the former, thankfully!

Hello friends, we opened a new #zVM red alert today for a problem when you apply the PTF for 4TB. There is no functional problem with the new code, just an unexpected challenge applying it to the system. vm.ibm.com/service/redalert/…

Thinking out loud... if the GDPS Virtual Appliance on a #LinuxONE system didn’t run in an LPAR this would be a perfect way to supervise it... Some 20 years too late, a genuine case for reintroducing V=R! 🤣

I am aware that as a born-and-bred Queenslander I have no concept of cold weather. As a result, I am working in gloves and a beanie. Apparently it’s 19°C outside... Negotiations with my wife over possession of the oil heater have failed (for me). Send help 🤣

I use z/VM on an almost-daily basis. I haven’t used TSO in months, but 3 times in as many days I’ve had to log on to a z/OS. That’s all it took for me to expect the line command ā€œRā€ to work back in XEDIT. Folks, this is your brain on ISPF. šŸ˜‚

I keep hearing people say, ā€œmost programmers don’t really understand recursion.ā€ I find that a little odd. What is poorly understood?

This post presents an estimate of how much the ā€˜minimum’ MTU costs on the Internet, and it’s scary. The 1500 byte MTU is the scourge of data centre networking as well... how inefficiently is your network operating if you’re not using jumbo frames?
"Why is the MTU of Ethernet 1500 bytes?" A question I asked myself a few nights back and could not find a quick response to. So after many days in a rabbit hole I present: --- How 1500 bytes became the MTU of the internet blog.benjojo.co.uk/post/why-…

Who says sysadminning can’t have a fun side? Sure, your sense of humour has to be a little wonked but šŸ˜‚ Meanwhile, security-me dies a little 🤯

A couple years ago I found some sample VTAM code in a book from 1979 and assembled it on modern-day z/OS and it ran. As it should šŸ˜‚ So I find it confronting that the PC OS that seems to be closest to that level of backwards-compatibility is... Windows 😳
