unintentional or not, this is still a microaggression of transphobia. w/ celeb trans ppl there’s nuance since you can’t ever fully erase their deadname but there are better ways to say this that are not only more sensitive and inclusive, but more accurate and correct as well

you could say something like “formerly known as” or “credited by their former name” or anything along those lines. or even “before they came out” or “before they transitioned”. for someone like elliot page you could say like “he starred in the film Juno” etc. it’s not that hard

i’m not trying to cancel LSMark or even paint him as bigoted. we all make mistakes sometimes. but this is a symptom of being a shallow ally & i doubt Mark has any trans friends close enough to correct his scripts before he publishes. this is a good teachable moment for everybody

i really can’t express in short words how much my heart is shattered upon hearing the news of Anthony Stewart Head’s passing. he was a generational talent, fierce trans and queer ally, and just all around genuinely decent man. i looked up to Giles and wanted to be like him, an exemplary paradigm for the kind of masculinity i wanted to embody. smart, compassionate, resilient, poised, witty, and so damn sharp. i can’t understate how much Giles raised me as a father figure when the men in my family couldn’t be there for me how i needed them to be. i really hoped to get the opportunity to meet him one day so i could tell him what Giles meant to be as a lonely queer teen who found a sense of belonging through his character. rest in peace, Tony, my heart goes out to your loved ones and all your parasocial Scooby-children who will miss you dearly

the representation is out there! there are so many talented trans and queer artists making works in every medium, genre, and style you can think of! it’s just not going to get handed to you on a silver platter by an algorithm. that’s why making real connections is so important!

also not to mention that as trans people we are somewhat forced to tell our own stories and make our own representation. cis-centered society simply is never going to cater to us. if you’re trans and want to see more rep in art, guess what, you have the power to change that!
