Dario Amodei has officially broken a weekend’s long silence to make a statement to the public regarding Fable 5: “What we saw this weekend in AI development was unprecedented. During the investigation of what our team believed to be a non-universal jailbreak exploit of Fable 5, Mistral’s Le Chaton Fat was released. Less than an hour later, it too was taken down. However, at Anthropic we believe this is actually precedence for Fable 5 to be opened back up to the global community. The capabilities of Le Chaton Fat greatly exceed that of Fable and we at Anthropic stand ready to help support the United States government in this race.”

While Anthropic is fighting with the US government, Europe quietly built the most powerful AI in the world Mistral, the best EU model, completely dominated competition in the most crucial benchmark We must now ban access to Mistral for all Americans It's just too powerful. It's a matter of national EU security

I'll give them my SSN and first-born child for Fable 5 access. Ball's in your court, Anthropic.

OpenAI's approach to LLM development seems a lot more mature in hindsight. No fearmongering, no alarmism, no bullshit. Just good models and good harnesses. Now that Anthropic has opened Pandora's box, who knows how they'll proceed.

"Mythos-class" models cannot be gatekept forever. Other nations will develop them too. The US should use this opportunity to harden their cybersecurity and prepare. Allow everyone to use their SOTA models with KYC, if needed. But banning the rest of the world won't work forever.

Great. Right when I paid $200 for it. Fuck you, US Government.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Fable is a legitimately fantastic model. Far more capable than GPT 5.5, though, of course, at a hundredth of the usage quota. Quite weird heading for a future where my job is writing AI promtps and architecting systems, and not, y'know, writing code.
