The fight against tuberculosis requires a whole-of-society approach, combining early detection, timely treatment, nutritional support, and community participation. Goa continues to strengthen these efforts under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, reviewed the progress achieved by Goa under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan along with Shri Yetindra M. Maralkar, Secretary (Health), Government of Goa, and Dr. Manish Gaunekar, State TB Officer, assessing the status of key interventions being undertaken across the State. During the visit to the Government Hospital and Research Centre, Tuem, Pernem, Poshan Kits and food baskets were distributed to TB patients under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Such initiatives go beyond treatment, strengthening the support ecosystem around patients and reinforcing our commitment to achieving a TB-free Goa in line with the national vision of a TB-Mukt Bharat. The progress made so far is encouraging, but we remain focused on accelerating efforts, expanding outreach, and ensuring that every patient receives the care, support, and dignity they deserve throughout their recovery journey.

Attended the World Food Safety Day 2026 Celebration, organised by the Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration, Goa, in collaboration with the Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim, on the theme “From Burden to Solutions – Safe Food Everywhere.” It is our endeavour to ensure that every citizen has access to safe, nutritious and quality food while continuously strengthening a culture of food safety across Goa. Equally important is our vision to take Goan cuisine to the global stage by promoting healthy cooking practices, enhancing food standards and building confidence in the quality and safety of our food ecosystem. The launch of the Nutrition Education Series, Eat Right Culinary Challenge, and Food Safety Training for Street Food Vendors marks a significant step towards creating greater awareness, encouraging healthier choices and empowering everyone involved in the food chain to become ambassadors of food safety. A special highlight of the programme was the release of the Food Safety Mannequin, which symbolises the importance of FoSTaC (Food Safety Training & Certification) training imparted to Food Business Operators. It serves as a reminder of the critical role that hygiene, safe food handling practices and compliance with food safety standards play in protecting public health and ensuring that safe food reaches every consumer. Goa’s rich culinary heritage is one of our greatest strengths. At the North Goa District Hospital, we launched the Home-Based Palliative Care Ambulance, a collaborative initiative of the Directorate of Health Services Goa and Goa Medical College & Hospital, with support from Defeat-NCD India Foundation (NCD Foundation) and Teva. For patients living with serious illnesses, access to care should not be limited by distance or mobility. This service will help bring palliative care closer to those who need it, supporting home-based visits, patient transport and continuity of care, while reducing the burden on families during challenging times. The strength of Goa’s healthcare model lies in partnerships that translate into better care on the ground. This initiative is another step towards making healthcare more accessible, affordable and responsive, ensuring that patients receive the support, comfort and medical attention they deserve, wherever they are. @MoHFW_INDIA
