The “Cockroach” controversy appears to be based on a narrative that critics argue misrepresented remarks made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.
His criticism was not directed at India’s youth as a whole. It was aimed at certain individuals who, according to his remarks, misuse respected professions and institutions. He later clarified that the youth of India are among the foundational pillars of a developed India.
Despite this clarification, a social media campaign under the banner of “Cockroach Janata Party” gained traction and drew significant public attention.
This raises an important question: even after the clarification, why did some individuals and groups continue to amplify the issue and turn it into a nationwide political campaign?
AAP-linked social media personality Abhijeet Dipke was among those who actively promoted the campaign. Was the objective genuinely to protect the interests of young people, or was it to generate distrust toward the judiciary and national institutions?
Some leaders associated with Congress and other opposition parties also expressed support or solidarity with the CJP campaign. Instead of correcting what critics describe as misinformation, they chose to use the controversy as a political issue.
One of the prominent supporters was Prakash Raj. He publicly backed the CJP campaign and participated in related protests. Critics argue that questioning nationalist voices, casting doubt on national institutions, and taking strongly partisan political positions have increasingly become part of his public persona.
The same Prakash Raj had earlier expressed support for Umar Khalid, who was arrested in connection with the alleged conspiracy case related to the 2020 Delhi riots and remains in judicial custody while legal proceedings continue. Rather than allowing the judicial process to take its course, supporters projected him as a symbol of resistance.
More recently, Prakash Raj’s name has also been mentioned in a petition related to the Dharmasthala case. The truth or otherwise of those allegations must ultimately be determined by the courts and investigating agencies.
A question for the authorities:
@NIA_India @HMOIndia @cbic_india
If any individual or organization is deliberately spreading misinformation and attempting to create distrust between constitutional institutions and the youth of India, should there not be an appropriate investigation? Should authorities not examine campaigns that may influence public opinion through misleading narratives?
A message to the youth of India:
Do not become tools in the hands of politicians, influencers, activists, or celebrities. Verify facts before joining any campaign. Think independently. Your future should be built through education, entrepreneurship, innovation, and hard work not through manufactured outrage on social media.
Truth matters.
Facts matter.
Nation comes first.
