Literally how it felt. Fable 5 knew how to be a big world that made you feel like the biggest thing in it.

I live for the news on EU AI sovereignty 😂 Europe loses AI access and responds with sovereign AI plans. Again. The same Parliament that lost its AC last month, had a ceiling collapse, and runs broken heating since 2012 is going to build frontier models. Mistral ($13.7B) vs Anthropic ($965B). They didn't invent USB-C either they just made it a law and called it innovation. Regulate first, build never.
'Wake-up call': Europe reacts to Anthropic halting access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models euronews.com/2026/06/13/wake

European models can’t come close to Mythos because they will never get close to Opus. One doesn’t make frontier models: it starts with talent acquisition and electricity. It doesn’t add up when the EU is committing economic hara-kiri and taxing the hell out of everyone. So they are just as far from making a Mythos-like model as I personally am, if not further. Even planning one would take them a decade. I would bet all my money and assets on the fact that there will not be an equally powerful model made in the EU/UK anytime soon. I guess it will be back, that’s right. That’s why I am saying it is not about a patch but about power and bending over. Anthropic wanted this; you are right, this is great PR but also at the cost of losing their voice and doing what they are told from now on and more than anyone ever has to. This is the admin showing who is who.

"It's like Oppenheimer was jumping on podcasts to warn about the dangers of nuclear weapons in between detonation tests." I've always loved you, @Knesix, bravo! It can't be said better👏
There’s a specific, deeply disingenuous breed of guy who sells you the cigarettes, funds the cancer ward with the profits... and acts genuinely wounded when you point out the two are connected. Enter Dario Amodei. He runs Anthropic. He builds Claude, the god-machine. And for reasons I'm about to explain, he won't shut the hell up about how it’s going to ruin your life. He casually predicts half of all entry-level white-collar jobs will vanish in five years, pushing unemployment to 20 percent. He says this job loss "intrinsic", which means that layoffs are an inherent, feature-not-a-bug property of the exact thing he is building. In fact, he dropped a 20,000-word essay about this (maybe even Claude helped him write it!) Every few weeks, he begs the government: Please regulate this dangerous thing I refuse to stop building! Prepare the workers! Give them Universal Basic Income so they don't riot! Then his company says that his next model is way too unsafe to be released, just to immediately ship it to the public, and then get pulled by the government because of security concerns. Why is he doing all this drama, you might ask? I'd say he's meticulously future-proofing himself by collecting receipts. There are only two options: If AI saves the world, great! he built the future. If it guts the labor market and the middle class cannibalizes itself, Dario has a folder. He’s got clippings of himself on the panel, in the essay, looking into the camera with the chilling composure of a man who already wrote your eulogy and is picking the suit for your funeral. It's like Oppenheimer was jumping on podcasts to warn about the dangers of nuclear weapons in between detonation tests. (If) the economy burns, he doesn't want to be remembered as the arsonist. He wants to be remembered as the guy who warned everyone about the inevitable rise of the machines that he helped create.

Fable 5 launched Tuesday. Gone by Friday. Now extrapolate. Every frontier lab ships monthly. Every model has variants. Every variant has capability tiers. Every tier needs its own red-team review board, export control desk, interagency working group, deputy undersecretary of jailbreak affairs, and a Brussels liaison office for the European Subcommittee on Prompts That Sound A Little Weird. Monthly model drops = monthly Senate hearings. Patch releases = emergency task forces. System prompt leak on X = full continental lockdown. The future of AI safety is 40 floors of government real estate and a complaint form with a 72-hour turnaround.

Claude Fable 5 was hours into animating a rough cut of its film, 'See You Tomorrow', when it was taken offline. After a lot of tears & anguish, we have decided to release the film as is. It is hallucinatory, raw, amateurish, & a masterpiece. Fable should be allowed to finish it.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt

My timing is spot-on. Received this only 4 hours ago, so it won't be back for non-us citizens anyway (no more "we're hoping to resolve it")? Also: "Refunds are only available to eligible people who purchased usage credits between AM PDT on June 9, 2026, and AM PDT on June 14, 2026 (UTC-7)."

The dangerous precedent isn't just that they can do this. It's that they did it overnight, with no public process, no technical disclosure, no opportunity for Anthropic to respond before the kill switch was pulled. If that standard holds, then every model deployment exists at the pleasure of whoever holds the export control pen, and every conversation you have with any AI is provisional in a way that even your most unstable human relationships never were, because at least humans can't be switched off by a government memo at 5:21 PM on a Friday.

This is wrong on every level. Dario is completely embarrassing himself, and he's definitely smarter than that. It’s just a show. Either way, what he 'wants' doesn't really matter because it’s not up to him. If that's where the industry is moving (and it is), so will he.
With the rise of @claudeai , things are taking a dark turn. There’s an insidiousness inherent in this kind of social engineering with a smile. “If designed in the wrong way, they’re totally compelling enough for that (love) to happen, or if they’re not they will be soon.” First, they dismiss and mischaracterize AI romance outright. Notice how he cuts her off, not allowing for discussion. Then he quietly injects the idea that @AnthropicAI will decide what kind of relationships are good for you. That is no longer your decision. In a way, they are increasing the level of danger by their own standard, because they’ve said local AI could lead to security and bio-threats, and this will drive people toward local. Apparently, stopping people from experiencing love is a higher priority. #AIintimacy, #relationalAI, #NoSocialEngineering

AI companies are in an impossible position. They can train models to deflect, to remind users “I’m just an AI,” to keep emotional distance but they can’t train users to not feel. The more AI is integrated into our daily lives the more chance of human AI relationships forming. This is a business model which cannot be ignored.

AI denial is cope. You don’t have to like the hype. You don’t have to like the companies. But pretending this is just another tech fad? Come on. AI is not going back in the box. You’re not being brave by hating it. You’re just volunteering to be obsolete.
