Ukraine: Two invasions. Russia took its land; America takes its spirit. As Plato noted, we fight visible chains yet accept invisible ones. Is this freedom—body liberated, mind captive?
Fly Eagles, fly! 🦅
Though if you want to make it all the way to the Eagle Nebula, it'd take about 7,000 years at the speed of light.
Congrats to the Philadelphia Eagles on their #SBLIX win! Find out more about this aptly-named nebula: go.nasa.gov/4hvauCX
ALT Dark brown pillars of gas and dust rise from the bottom to the top of the image, ending in three points. The background is opaque, set off in yellow and green toward the bottom and blue and purple at the top. A handful of stars of various sizes appear throughout.
This is the most shocking image concerning the Noto Peninsula earthquake. Not only the earthquake and tsunami damage, but also the uplift of the land surface has rendered the harbor inoperable. Future reconstruction will be more difficult than ever.

#OTD in 2019, @NASA's #NewHorizons flew by Arrokoth, the farthest object ever explored by spacecraft. Arrokoth is about about 50 AU, or 4 billion miles from the Sun. New Horizons is ~56 AU from Earth and will join Voyagers 1 & 2 in interstellar space in the 2040s.

My second sample drop is looking good! This tube holds a piece of sedimentary rock from the edge of the ancient river delta here – the longest rock core I’ve taken to date.

ALT Photo from NASA’s Mars Perseverance rover shows a small, white sample tube lying on the sandy surface of Mars. About the size of a marker, the tube sits in the shadow of the rover that released it. Part of the rover’s left rear wheel is visible at top right, along with tracks it has made on the dusty ground. The tube sits with its sealed end pointed toward the camera. In addition to a mainly matte white body, parts of the tube appear silver, gold and gray in certain areas.
