Live soccer news: Spain-Cape Verde is surprisingly compelling: 0-0 after 80 minutes. Put it on TV if you can.

Replying to @Brian_Tallerico
@Brian_Tallerico retweeted this when the movie was released, and others too. Crying fans. I saw the film and thought, "Why would someone sob through this poorly written X-Files episode which lacks an ending?" Now I want to know: what did I miss that was so emotionally moving?
Basically sobbed through the entire back half of DISCLOSURE DAY. Spielberg the greatest to ever do it, and hasn’t lost a step in any way, shape, or form. Mesmerizing, exhilarating, profound cinema.

I'm not trying to be provocative. I didn't hate the movie: I liked even most mediocre X-Files episodes, and this was like those, albeit with the "everybody's watching" ending from Romero's Diary of the Dead. I really don't get it. What's in there?

Disclosure Day is mid. Not great, not terrible. It's an expensive-looking X-Files episode with a good cast and a weak script.

I know Paraguay, homefield, etc. but that was literally the best half of World Cup soccer for the USMNT in 96 years.

This isn't the same old #USMNT. Maybe the best attack we've ever had, and Balogun is the best striker we've ever had. USA!!!!!!!!

I don't know how anyone is able to focus on writing tasting notes with the World Cup on.

The one good thing about Elon Musk becoming a trillionaire today is that you know it's pissing off all the run-of-the-mill billionaires.

Wineries are finally lowering tasting fees, but wine country is seeing fewer visitors anyway. Good news is that California's ongoing grape glut means wine in medium-priced bottles will be better than ever. Plus, results of a $100 bet between analysts. wine-searcher.com/m/2026/06/…

A good column that reminds us that wine is so much more than alcohol, and it will help us to talk about it that way. jancisrobinson.com/articles/…

This could be a big deal for wine lovers who want to order wine from stores in other states. Ohio didn't have to ask the US Supreme Court to weigh in, but it did. That makes it much more likely that SCOTUS will take the case. wine-searcher.com/m/2026/06/…

Ohio made a curious decision to appeal a wine-shipping case it lost to the US Supreme Court on the outgoing attorney general's last day in office. Ohio's appeal could be a tremendous boon for consumers nationwide -- it could open up the entire country. wine-searcher.com/m/2026/06/…

English writer disappointed that Japan is not a theme park for his enjoyment.
Japanese cities can disappoint. Visitors stroll around hoping to be awe-struck by the dreamy spectacle of clip-clopping Geisha in their wooden geita, or barreling sumo wrestlers, or high-stockinged ninja girls (à la Kill Bill), and all against a Blade Runner backdrop, only to be confronted with mostly unremitting blandness. The constants are these: concrete, plastic, more concrete, more plastic, endless construction (one crappy shopping complex or mansion block replacing another), confusion, and noise. It can all seem dizzyingly homogenous. ✍️ Philip Patrick Article | spectator.com/article/the-da…

"They stood toe-to-toe for the first 60 minutes." "Lots of positives to take away." Another moral victory. Sigh.

Historically, #USMNT has done two things well. 1) They have been more fit than most teams and often score very late goals as a result 2) They usually have good goalkeepers This squad has other strengths -- notably on the attack -- but it doesn't appear to still have those two.
