Iβve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true:
β As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable.
β Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then youβve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldnβt have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability β big or small β it is Anthropicβs responsibility to patch.)
β A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused.
β In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isnβt serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropicβs brand as the AI safety company. Itβs difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not βserious.β
β In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety.
β In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. Itβs been very surprised that Anthropic hasnβt wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropicβs reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community.
β The Adminβs hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasnβt wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority.
β Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropicβs technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropicβs court.

The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Agreed! I have 3 of mine own, and 20 neighborhood kids. Yesterday neighborhood kids asked to find, download, and 3D print jet planes. Jesse (first to ask for jet plane) confirmed that he understood these are not fitted with jetsβ¦yet π€£
Day before, we were queueing up whale sharks then tiger shark prints.
Since Iβm using an Ender 5 pro currently (released 2020 π΄π») they are learning a lot about the process and what can go wrong π€
Iβve showed them @BambulabGlobal printers as where Iβll go next to not babysit and pray as often for successful prints π
I taught them about build plate vs nozzle temps because the numbers of 50C vs 200C first scared them. They touched the 50C glass build plate and were shocked that it wasnβt that hot.
I said you are not to test the hotness of the 200C nozzle. That is where the plastic filament is melted to poop it out into the designs we print.
π₯Ή This is one of my favorite ways to spend my time along with modding electric scooters with them. We are going from π1 24V LiFePo4 -> [2,3,4] in parallel to test the improvements felt while Scootin. Max 30A on the Razor Pocket Mod controller which we discussed too since each battery max discharge is 10A with 18A < 3s burst.
Ideally Iβll non-profit, open heart source all of it, and help neighborhoods around the world have their own neighborhood βWesWorld STEAM locationβ.
Itβs tough to do bootstrap it solo (especially with me being π© CFO too) but worth the effort for each and every one of them.

Acquisition == Kids acquiring any sort of knowledge they desire with others
Equity split == We are all equal. Leave titles at the door. Kids donβt need that fluff.
Investors == Parents can come invest time in what their kids genuinely WANT to do. Why not invest time in a fun project / new instrument / skill with your kids that youβve never made time for?

The fact that robotics isn't unilaterally solved is just an algorithms gap. All of the silicon valley companies doing "robotics" right now with their data collection meme are on the wrong path entirely.
It's surprising that robotics isn't really, actually solved. It's not hard
