I feel like the fact that Jalen's dad played for the Knicks in the finals against the Spurs back in 1999 when Jalen was just two years old is legitimately under-appreciated. What a dope NYC story.
Little Jalen Brunson on the floor of Madison Square Garden. Dad Rick was on 3 Knicks teams including the 1999 Eastern Conference champs. #Legacy #NewYorkForever

There’s really no need to act like there’s not an obvious middle ground: pay people the normal rates to do the work upfront, but establish terms that allow them to get paid on the backend *IF* the film becomes a huge profitable success.
I wonder if the Obsession discourse is going to result in a bunch of unpaid indie work in exchange for points that don’t pay out because most films aren’t profitable.

I haven't seen Backrooms yet and I hope it's great, but I wish that Phillip Youmans had gotten this much attention when he made Burning Cane, a movie of actual horrors, at the age of seventeen.

I love good news. Her best role yet (Clytemnestra) is on the way ☝️
Lupita Nyong’o will play both Helen of Troy and her sister, Clytemnestra, in Christopher Nolan’s ‘THE ODYSSEY.’ (time.com/article/2026/05/12/…)

RT @carolinerenard_: Shouldn’t have to become content creators to be screenwriters and directors.

it's amazing how many stars in classic hollywood came from abject poverty or the middle of nowhere and clawed their way up from nothing. you almost never see that today and i think we are suffering for it. i wanna see that grit on my screen.
maybe nepotism isn’t so bad

It’s such an unfortunate truth that the success of another Black film or show determines if your shit gets made while others can just be.

Fucking bleak that a success of one movie determines the creation of another. It makes me think of other movies that got cancelled prematurely because of the failure of other movies within the past years when marketing negligence or studio interference are to blame. Anyway go see You Me & Tuscany so Nina Lee can make her film!

RT @TroyOnyango: people won’t support up-and-coming artists and directors who are making the exact stories they claim to want, but as soon…

"Whatever the hell you need to do" is how to sustain a career as a director, according to Barry Jenkins. "I worked at Banana Republic for three and a half years while I had a deal at Focus Features and an agent at CAA," the Oscar-winning 'Moonlight' director and co-writer told fellow director Anu Valia ('We Strangers'). Governments around the world are spending billions on nuclear weapons and genocidal wars. Is it really that deep if someone steals knowledge?
