💡10 ideas hospitals and health systems can try in 2025 to Innovate faster and better👇
Note: I’m not saying these are the right things for your specific organization to try today. But I hope it gives you some inspiration…
1. Open up a startup hub to give early stage companies a physical home in your four walls and direct access to your teams for collaboration. I’m surprised how few organizations have tried this.
2. Crowdsource problems from frontline staff and get them to upvote their favourites. Use that to define your Innovation Agenda.
3. Crowdsource problems from patients and families in your community and get them to upvote their favourites. Use that to define your Innovation Agenda too.
4. Organize a Shark Tank competition for your frontline staff to pitch problems and their proposed solutions. Fund a few winners.
5. Shutdown innovations that clearly aren’t working. Do post-mortems to understand why. Free up capacity for your next important innovations. I bet you have more zombie projects than you realize.
6. Create a Tech / Informatics / Digital / Innovation lead role for every clinical specialty. Best way to get innovation scaled across a health system. Natural champions everywhere!
7. Double down on your innovations that ARE working and scale that success. I bet you are doing this less than you realize.
8. Open up your mind to the non-incumbent innovators. By default, startups are thinking bigger and differently than incumbents who are highly motivated to keep the status quo. Learn from the innovators who are actually solving each problem the best.
9. Host a speed dating event between your staff and local healthcare startups. You never know where serendipity might lead.
10. Organize monthly or quarterly networking events for internal IT, informatics, clinicians and frontline staff to connect. Invite cool guest speakers. Use this to build an internal community of innovators.
