After 9 years of training, a pathologist in 2024 will get paid $35.36 to diagnose a person’s cancer, compared to $45 in 2000. That is a 45% decrease in inflation-adjusted income. 0.006% of the US population is trained to do this job. When do we say enough is enough?

Because they spent over a decade to learn. Because they made $12/hour for years (as physicians). Because they put their training ahead of many valuable life goals. Because they’re on call throughout their working years. Because they advocate for us. Because they save lives.

Today, 35 years ago, I left Communist China and arrived at Austin TX. After a 23-hour flight with two stops and after having gone through years of tyranny, poverty, oppression and indoctrination, I was so excited and happy I finally made it to America, "The Land of Free, The Home of Brave.” I did not have much when I arrived. I was skinny and weighed only 98 pounds. I had a few clothes and books, $100 in my pocket that I borrowed from friends, and over $1200 in debt to my U.S sponsor for air ticket and graduate school fees. I could not speak English fluently, but I was determined to work hard to achieve my American Dream. Today, I am living the American dream: a loving husband (whom I met on the first day), three great kids, three home businesses, live in the Granite State and travel around the world. I am so blessed in this country and I am forever grateful. I hope America still holds the same promise for people who came here for freedom!
