In late 2023 I talked @sylvechv into starting Hyli, a boldly ambitious plan to rethink blockchain architecture for the future, with ZK as our killer feature. It was the logical endgame of blockchains. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out: ZK has not exploded in usage like we’d hoped, and the market has overall coalesced around a few specific use cases for which this ideal of blockchain is simply unsuited. After two years building with our brilliant team in Paris, we’ve decided it was no longer worth a try. I’d like to thank all of our partners, investors, friends, and of course the team who believed in our ambition. They’re incredible operators any founder would kill for, you should hire them. Thanks for all the fish. @sylvechv & I will be exploring new territories around agent-driven commerce. Drop me a DM, always happy to chat.

Sad news: we’re shutting down the Hyli project. Hyli was started on a core idea: that ZK can push blockchains far beyond current capabilities, that someone had to push the boundaries of blockchain architecture. We’re extremely proud of what our team built over the last two years: we shipped a full node client from scratch, built using the latest BFT consensus technology with Autobahn, and shipping highly innovative support for ZK smart contracts and proved it could sustain real user load. Unfortunately, technical achievements are not all you need. The market has changed a lot since we started, ZK has not gained the traction we had hoped for, and we don’t see a viable path to launching Hyli in the current environment. Everything we have built will remain open-source on our github repo: github.com/hyli-org Thank you to our backers, supporters, contributors, and friends. If you are looking to hire highly capable operators in engineering, operations and marketing, drop us a DM. It’s been a brilliant journey, we’ll see you again soon.

Blockchains still broadcast every transaction publicly. Every stablecoin payment leaks the amount, the sender, and the recipient. We’re excited to share that Tempo is building Zones for businesses that need privacy: private blockchains that are interoperable with the rest of Tempo for stablecoin use cases like payroll, treasury, and settlement.

A month later, Zolt v0.1.0 is here! - Code is good enough to make an official release - Faster than Jolt on the @eth_proofs' SHA256 benchmarks 😱 - Huge refactoring effort - Really fun to work on! - Still a lot of work to do to match Jolt with bigger programs (2^28 )
Introducing Zolt: the first pure-Zig zkVM Fully compatible with @a16zcrypto's Jolt, the entire cryptography is made from scratch in @ziglang , only using the stdlib! No arkworks FFI or other dependencies 🫡 The first benchmarks:

Iran can’t threaten to blockade Ormuz if it’s already blockaded. Absolute goat move.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

Every year in France we do a weird side quest to scare Americans. Riots, airport strikes, now it’s kidnappings

American companies need to wake up and realise that when you work under a protofascist government, you are liable to get protofascisted. Anthropic is the first big domestic example I can remember but it won't be the last.

wrt AI, people underestimate our ability to adapt. The evolutionary pressure on a given normal year is actually pretty low, and not representative. People sell the grindset lie, but the truth that covid & wartime showed is that we can move very fast when we need to.
