Or your kid’s surgery.
You should not have to go viral in order to get your insurance company to pay for the cancer treatments your doctor says you need to survive. Glad this story had a happy ending. Many others do not.

When even the #Hallmark channel is pointing out how damaging the #healthinsurance industry is, maybe it’s time to reconsider the business model. #UHC #CEO #Cigna #healthcare #HappyHowlidays #FindingMrChristmas

Do you know what #Cigna told me when they (finally) approved Natalie’s surgery? They “were just trying to protect her.” From what? School? Friends? Being alive? Killing people is wrong. Even if you do it with paperwork and a smile.
The @nytimes lets the CEO of UnitedHealth write a straight-up corporate propaganda / PR piece defending their company, falsely claiming they believe in fixing the healthcare system. I assume they'll let Mangione write a rebuttal, or else they don't believe in viewpoint diversity.

Her surgery is approved!!! We are excited but exhausted. It shouldn’t take a parent who can write and a kid (young woman) who is willing to share her medical history with the world just to access care. And also, HER SURGERY IS APPROVED!! 🩷 Pics of Natalie over the years.

Guess they haven’t learned anything. Insurance is not an indispensable part of health care and executives are certainly not pillars of leadership or whatever the fuck that line was. And not a word about employee safety. Or concern. Or care. JFC.

Good morning everyone! I’m having a little trouble keeping up with my inbox and mentions. Here’s a glimpse into Natalie’s world - “graduation” first visit to the surgeon family - and then will share our plans in the thread.

To answer some questions: Is the case manager really on our side? I sure hope so. I understand people skepticism, but I want to live in a world where we look out for each other. So for now, I’ll say yes.

This!!!!! Hoping Natalie’s story leads to change and better access and protections for everyone! #healthcare #HealthInsurance #POTS #CCI #hEDS #Cigna - are y’all listening yet???
Replying to @DocZing
5/5 This is fixable 1. Insurance companies are essentially organized crime - pay for protection, price escalates, protection decreases, repeat. Lose a battle, may wind up dead. #REGULATE @SenateDems 2. Physician education about #EDS, #CCI #AAI #POTS #MCAS,etc. Pretty Simple

And to the many, many people in my inbox and across platforms on more restrictive plans who are desperate for care, I am so, so sorry. American #HealthInsurance needs to do better. I sure hope the #healthcare #CEOs, administrators and politicians are listening to all of us.

Hi all! Natalie and I want to say thank you for all the love, support, shares and messages. Her surgery has been r/s to late December but we still don’t have final approval from #Cigna - which means that they could still deny it even tho they *pinky promise* that it’s ok.

It’s just that oops, they can’t find the person to sign it, and they sent it to someone *who doesn’t work there anymore* and oops, can’t find the next person to sign it. So we are hopeful but wary. We’ve reached out to the WA State Ins Commissioner and our congressional folks.

I want my amazing, kind, funny, caring, empathetic daughter to feel better. She’s handled so much loss with a grace I do not possess. She deserves the world. And for that to be possible, the 1st step is an approved surgery. (Photo from a few years ago. Picked it b/c she 🩷s it.)

Also! @PattyMurray @SenatorCantwell @RepKimSchrier If any of you want to work on a law that limits health insurance companies ability to deny claims based on…vibes and lies….i’d be happy to work with you. We can call it “Natalie’s Law” and maybe help people.
