So excited to be named visiting fiction writer at my alma mater, Vermont College of Fine Arts. When I think about what alma mater literally means—a fostering, nurturing mother—it feels exactly right for what VCFA gave me. Looking forward is an understatement.

Hotels supply soap, shampoo, lotion, sometimes cotton swabs and an emery board, but why stop there? It'd be great if they could leave a few days' worth of shirts and pants, a jacket, a pair of shoes, and a pre-written excuse note for why you missed your flight home.
