Somaliland, the island in the Indian Ocean
Israel's diplomatic horizons continue to expand. Since 2025, Israel has opened new embassies in Moldova, Zambia, Estonia and Fiji, announced a new embassy in Slovenia, restored diplomatic relations with Bolivia, and established relations with Somaliland. These developments reflect a growing recognition that cooperation in innovation, healthcare, agriculture, water management, cybersecurity and trade benefits all nations.

it's kind of crazy Ch. 14 couldn't find a spanish-speaking interviewer
In a first-ever exclusive interview with Israeli TV (Channel 14), Argentine President Javier Milei (@JMilei) told Libby Alon (@libby_alon) why he stands firmly with Israel, calling it the ā€œfortress of the Westā€ and a protector of Judeo-Christian values. Milei slammed the "cowardice" of the international community for failing to confront the threat of Iran, noting that Argentina itself has been a victim of their terror bombings: šŸ’¬ ā€œThe international community is cowardly... they are afraid. What they don't understand is that fear only strengthens the enemy.ā€ President Milei also expressed his deep personal friendship and professional admiration for Prime Minister Netanyahu and Donald Trump: šŸ’¬ ā€œI feel like I am a personal friend of Bibi... the whole Western world should be grateful that he is Prime Minister. Both [Netanyahu and Trump] are exceptional leadersā€. And finally, President Milei reflected on the deep personal meaning of his upcoming visit to Israel to light a torch and receive the Presidential Medal of Honor: šŸ’¬ ā€œThis journey is going to be very moving... to carry a torch representing one of the 12 tribes... I find myself faced with all this outpouring of appreciation, meeting many Jews around the world who thank me, and I tell them- I am only doing what is right.ā€

Israeli public attention may be elsewhere, but for three years, a revolution has been underway. Smotrich is diligently advancing his religiously inspired vision for the future: exclusive Jewish sovereignty from the river to the sea, at the expense of democracy and the country’s regional integration into the Middle East. That puts Israel on a collision course with Trump’s post-war Gaza plan, which depends on rebuilding Palestinian governance and regional buy-in. 🧵
Smotrich says next government should ā€˜encourage migration’ of Palestinians from West Bank timesofisrael.com/liveblog-f…

Though often derided for his messianism and unpopularity, Smotrich stands out among Israeli politicians for actually articulating a vision for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He’s been remarkably effective in advancing his 2017 Decisive Plan: full Israeli sovereignty, with Palestinians given the option to emigrate or stay without voting rights. Recent symbolic Knesset votes supporting annexation suggest much of the mainstream right is on board with this, even if their rhetoric avoids spelling out the true end game. Few in the opposition are providing an answer to what should happen instead.

Contrary to what Smotrich said, it’s hard to imagine Trump agreeing to allow Israel to trample on his post-war Gaza plan in a matter of weeks. Meanwhile, Israeli efforts to strangle the PA may very well cause the administration’s efforts in Gaza to run aground. The 20-Point Plan explicitly calls for Gaza eventually returning to PA rule and recognizes Palestinian statehood aspirations—necessary stipulations to ensure the plan has regional support and Palestinian legitimacy. If the Trump team wants their accomplishments in Gaza to endure, it’s time to start talking to the Israelis about the West Bank.

Trump's plan established the NCAG not as an alternative to the PA, but as a bridge to it—both to give the PA time to reform, and to create a buffer that reduces Israeli opposition to a PA role in Gaza. For the 20-Point Plan to succeed, the administration needs to follow through on its commitment to PA reform, and push for the NCAG to be let into Gaza.
President Trump's 20-Point Plan hinges on establishing alternative Palestinian governance in Gaza—which requires a reformed, empowered Palestinian Authority. Explore this overview of our blueprint for comprehensive PA reform: israelpolicyforum.org/wp-con…

Shunned by his erstwhile allies in the Jewish opposition, Mansour Abbas agreeing to reconstituting the Joint List is understandable. But joining with the Arab parties may doom any chance of winning Bennett et al back over, which is what's needed to actually defeat Netanyahu.
