You're losing your best pest controllers because your garden has no water source. Beneficial insects need water too β€” without it, they leave. A shallow tray flush with the soil keeps them there. Free pest control. No spray required. 🌱

πŸ’‘ QUICK TIP This one mistake can actually kill your fig's fruit set. Figs are setting right now. A single dry spell can cause the entire crop to drop. Give them 1 inch of water per week β€” no skipping. Mulch 3–4 inches deep to lock in moisture and keep roots cool.

We have bad storms coming through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening, but I did manage to get a couple pictures of some bumblebees on my milkweed after I got back from my walk with Annabel, right before the rain. πŸπŸ’šπŸ If you look closely at the last picture, the bee has its proboscis still sticking out with nectar on the end. It rubbed its front legs on it several times before resuming its foraging. 😍

I bought some copper mesh to put around my plants to stop slugs from eating my Dahlias. I lost so many of my plants, not just Dahlias this year. I found this one this morning stuck in the mesh. I don't know what to do & I don't want to hurt them #gardening

I probably spent way too much time trying to capture the sand reflected in these droplets this morning, but I think it was worth it. πŸ“Έβœ¨

@des_farrand @Steveredwolf Morning all. I finally got a rest day cos it rained all day; I tried a pic of rain caught in a spider's web like it's in a hammock; this Heuchera in a sale rail mixed planter is really thriving; who can resist those beautiful green eyes??!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

You don't have to make every day productive. That's not the goal. The goal is a good life. And a good life includes evenings where you did nothing notable and it was fine and you didn't feel guilty about it. Go do nothing notable. Let it be fine. Happy Friday, People.

You are not the worst thing you've ever done. You are not your worst day. You are also not your best day. You're the pattern β€” the choices made consistently, in private, when nothing is on the line. Make this a good one. Happy Thursday!

More home gardeners need to hear this β€” most caterpillar sprays will not spare your bees. Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) only activates inside a caterpillar's gut. Bees land on treated plants and fly off completely fine. What are you currently using for caterpillars?
