Groundhopping isn't just about the 90 minutes! It's about visiting places you'd otherwise may never visit, exploring what the local area has to offer. Ipswich 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 has an aesthetically pleasant centre dotted by a bevy of imposing Victorian and Tudor edifice, and a nice quayside.

Liverpool Lawn in Ramsgate, Kent, was planned as a gently curving crescent to exploit sea views from its site, which is set back from the seafront. 🌊 This speculative development was constructed between 1827 and 1836 by the Ramsgate builder James Crisford.

One of the joys of researching & writing my next book over Christmas is discovering research or designs that I would never otherwise encounter. Look at this gorgeous & original 1948 design for a factory & warehouse in Ipswich by the great Raymond Erith. Regrettably, never built..

Arguably, this is why #Hull is here. The succession crisis and subsequent English invasions of Scotland meant Edward I needed a supply base and increased tax revenue, leading him to buy the small port of Wyke in 1296, making it Hull in 1299. @HullMaritime @hull_libraries
The marriage contract of Margaret of Scotland and King Erik II of Norway, 25 July 1281. The couple’s daughter Margaret - “the Maid of Norway” - later died on her way to Scotland to take the throne of the Kingdom, creating a succession crisis that erupted into decades of war.
