Lendal Bridge provided a vital path to the Minster area from York’s first railway station in 1863🚂
The structure stretches 53 meters across the Ouse & was designed by Thomas Page🌉
Made from cast iron, the bridge replaced a ferry service, used by Florence Nightingale in 1852🩺
Walmgate Bar is York's most complete medieval gateway, retaining its outer defence or Barbican🤯
The fortified passageway still has a portcullis and wooden doors, perhaps installed in the 14c📜
Most of the structure's stonework is 14c but the original arch dates from the 1100's⛏️
York Minster is regarded as the largest medieval Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps🏰
The building boasts a variety of architectural styles after taking 252 years to construct💎
Work began with the South Transept in 1220 and the building was declared finished in 1472⛏️
Founded soon after the Norman Conquest, St Leonard’s was once one of England's greatest medieval hospitals🏥
Very little survives above ground today⛏️
St Leonard’s was closed during the English Reformation (16c), leaving the city without a hospital until 1740🤯
