Here's the story of how we paid $0 for a domain worth ~$250k So at the beginning of the year we explored renaming in order to launch 2.0 of our product Mora. We explored different options and we ended up falling in love with the name Mora. But a premium 4-letter dot com can be very very expensive!! We're just a young startup. We don't have that kind of cash. We need to hustle! I spent hours writing down options, asking Claude how to negotiate, etc. And then i thought… Wait what if we did it in exchange of equity? We had great early traction so far so it didn't hurt to ask. The folks we talked to about it thought we were crazy! Including our domain broker (shout out Justin!) We presented the option to the seller who ended up being open to it (luckily!) We went through some diligence and ended up closing it! I think a great name compounds the same way a great product does. So this effort was worth it!

ā€œI’m fully aligned and excited to build.ā€ That is the common thread among almost every builder and founder I have partnered with. A few people have asked why I didn’t simply hire developers and build these businesses myself. After reading hundreds of applications and working with dozens of builders inside the Beanstalk Challenge, I’ve realized something. You can hire talent. You can hire skills. You can hire developers. But it’s very difficult to hire vision. And it’s impossible to hire passion. The common thread among the builders isn’t their technical ability. It’s their energy. Almost every one of them says some version of the same thing: ā€œI’m excited to build.ā€ ā€œI’ve already started.ā€ ā€œI can’t wait to get going.ā€ They’re not watching the clock. They’re watching the results. They’re not bringing labor to the table. They’re bringing their ideas, creativity, vision, and obsession. If I hired people, I’d be limited to my own ideas. I don’t have the creativity, expertise, experience, or passion to come up with hundreds of different businesses across hundreds of different industries. The builders do!!! Each builder sees opportunities I don’t see. Each builder brings knowledge I don’t have. Each builder brings a vision that is uniquely their own. That’s why the Beanstalk Challenge works. Instead of one person’s vision, I’m getting dozens of unique visions from people who genuinely want to build something great. That’s the secret behind the Beanstalk Challenge. I wasn’t looking for employees. I was looking for founders. #BeanstalkChallenge

One final update. @MorganLinton has accepted the 5th and final seat on the Beanstalk Challenge judging panel. I couldn’t think of a better person to complete this respected and trusted group. The panel is now complete. The builders will build. The judges will judge. And the results will speak for themselves. I want to personally thank: @MorganLinton @AndrewRosener @Castello_Bros @AmmarKubba @RonJackson for accepting this responsibility and for the confidence they’ve shown in what we’re building. Their willingness to lend their time, expertise, judgment, and credibility means a great deal both to me and the industry, and I’m grateful to have such a respected and trusted group guiding this process. šŸ‘ Welcome aboard, Morgan, and thank you to all of our judges. 🌱 #BeanstalkChallenge #Domains #DigitalAssets

Important Beanstalk Challenge Update: I have decided to remove myself entirely from the judging process. The winners will be selected by an independent panel of 5 respected leaders from our industry. I am pleased to announce the first 4 judges: Andrew Rosener @andrewrosener David Castello @Castello_Bros Ammar Kubba @AmmarKubba Ron Jackson @DNJournal One additional judge will be added in the coming days. The purpose is simple. I don’t want the winners chosen by me. But the panel of esteemed judges was. I want the winners chosen by people whose judgment, experience, and integrity are respected throughout the domain industry. It’s about builders. It’s about entrepreneurship. It’s about execution. It’s about turning opportunity into reality. The builders will build. The judges will judge. And the results will speak for themselves. Let the games begin. Don't believe me… Just watch! #BeanstalkChallenge #Domains #DigitalAssets

The one thing history teaches us is that barriers get broken by the people willing to step up. That’s it. People either: step up, step back, or complain. Most barriers are mental long before they are physical. Yes, physical barriers exist, but even those are usually overcome first by mental strength. Physical strength alone is never enough. Olympians may be champions because of their physical gifts, but what gets them over the finish line is mental strength. Willpower, Focus. Belief. The refusal to quit. Mental strength has proven throughout history to be one of the greatest forces humanity possesses. And when the Internet arrived, the people who won didn’t wait for permission. They didn’t apply for jobs. They assumed roles. They simply stepped up and grabbed a tool. They found a place to fit. A sector to plow. A direction to go. That’s exactly what’s happening again with AI right now. Some people are frozen in fear. Those are the next generation of complainers being born. Others are stepping into the future and building it. #BeanstalkChallenge #Domains #DigitalAssets #domainking

Just acquired Mangala․com. This is exactly the kind of domain name I love. In Sanskrit and Indian contexts, Mangala can mean something auspicious, and it is also associated with Mars. But in Turkish, Mangala is also the name of a traditional strategy board game in the Mancala family. One word. Multiple cultures. Completely different meanings. One powerful .com domain. I have always been fascinated by domains like this. I own Seine․com, which is the famous river flowing through Paris, while ā€œseineā€ is also an English word for a fishing net. I also own Muscat․com, which is the capital of Oman, while Muscat is also a famous sweet and aromatic grape variety. With domains that have multiple meanings, choosing the right development direction can sometimes be difficult. But with Mangala․com, the direction feels clear. I plan to build it into an online game based on the rules of Turkish Mangala, with multiple language versions, and see whether it can become a game enjoyed by players around the world. Maybe this will become my next Gomoku.com experiment. And here is another reason I love this kind of project: According to dotDB, ā€œMangalaā€ is already registered in 52 extensions. That means even if the development experiment does not work out as planned, the domain itself already has meaningful underlying value. That is the beauty of Domain-Driven Development. You start with a strong domain. You build something real on it. If it succeeds, you may create a valuable business. If it fails, you still own a valuable digital asset. Are there any other interesting meanings of ā€œMangalaā€ that I missed? Feel free to share! #domains #domainnames #indiedev #gamedev

šŸ”„ Domain Deal Spotlight: TETR .com šŸ”„ From $342 in 2017 to an estimated $600K - $700K today — a jaw-dropping valuation surge for this premium 4-letter .com. Acquired by Pratham Mittal (founder of Tetr College of Business & Masters' Union) for his new edtech venture, it’s being called the "half-price NAS .com" — referencing Nuseir Yassin’s reported $1.25M purchase of NAS .com. This isn’t just a domain swap; it’s a masterclass in brand building. A sharp, brandable name to power a global education platform backed by $18M in funding. When a domain goes from a throwaway $342 sale to a 7-figure asset, you know it’s about more than letters. It’s about the story, the brand, and the future it represents. šŸ’¬ Would you pay a premium for a brandable domain that matches your startup’s vision? šŸ‘‡

Your domain is more than an address. It’s digital land you own, build on, and monetize. On @DadsGoneCrypto, our CEO @heyheyfred explains why domains are becoming liquid assets and why Doma brings that ownership onchain. youtu.be/k9t1e05ZSfY

I’ve had a number of people contact me recently saying they wanted to explain the Beanstalk Challenge to others, but were having a difficult time fully articulating what it actually is. So I put together a clear summary that can easily be shared, distributed, amplified, and understood without me needing to explain it personally every time. WHAT IS THE BEANSTALK CHALLENGE? The Beanstalk Challenge is a skill-based entrepreneurial challenge built around my personal portfolio of category-defining domain names and AI-leveraged business creation. The goal is simple: Take premium digital assets out of ā€œlanding page prisonā€ and turn them into real businesses built by talented people with vision, execution, and skill. Participants are selected based on ideas, ability, creativity, strategy, execution potential, and their ability to actually build something meaningful. Your credentials are your passport. This is not random participation. Participants are being given access to multimillion dollar domain names they would likely never otherwise have access to in their lifetime. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the right builders. The domains are the foundation. The business is the multiplier. Instead of taking a 3-month, 6-month, or 1-year gig and making $25,000, $50,000, or even $100,000… …participants now have the opportunity to build something with a future, participate in the upside, and potentially become long-term partners in real businesses built on category-defining digital assets. CURRENT STRUCTURE: Rick provides: The domain The visibility The audience The platform The amplification And the opportunity itself The builder provides: Execution Development Creativity Strategy Marketing Operations And growth During operation of the business: The builder keeps 100% of NET profits until agreed startup costs are recovered. After breakeven: Builder: 50% Rick / Domain Owner: 50% The builder does the daily heavy lifting. The domain itself provides the leverage. There is also a potential 3-year buyout path where the builder can earn majority operational ownership participation through successful execution and long-term growth. That structure can evolve toward: Builder: 80% Rick / Domain Owner: 20% The Beanstalk Challenge is intentionally designed to attract increasingly sophisticated builders, operators, entrepreneurs, developers, marketers, and business creators over time. As the challenge grows, the incentives grow with it. What begins with my personal Bentley and Corvette is intended to evolve into substantially larger long-term incentives tied to real-world business execution and meaningful value creation. The entire philosophy is simple: Instead of renting your talent for short-term gigs, the Beanstalk Challenge is about investing your talent into your own future by unlocking the true value of category-defining domain names. The Internet changed everything once before. AI is changing it again. BeanstalkChallenge.com #BeanstalkChallenge #Domains #DigitalAssets

If you have a bad domain name, every dollar spent in SEO is a sunk cost. It has no ROI because every time a customer wants to find you they'll have to use Google and then you're paying for that same client to come to you again plus you risk that they end up with a competitor.

I made a crazy purchase... šŸ˜… I bought postfast (.) com I really didn't need it, as I have quite good DR on postfa (.) st, but I wanted to protect the brand for the future. It was too expensive for my taste, and did include some barganing and such. Quite happy though, now that I own it, nevertheless I'll just point it to my main domain, nothing more, but just some calm, that I can always change. Even if time comes to sell PostFast, it would be a great asset for the buyers. So a lot of positives, but in the future, not now.

The application window for ICANN’s Next Round of new gTLDs is officially open and will remain open through August 12, 2026. If you’ve been considering applying, it’s important to know there is no advantage to submitting early, an application filed on May 1 is treated the same as one submitted on August 1. This means you still have time to carefully evaluate your strategy, prepare a strong application, and position your TLD for long-term success. Jeff Neuman @jintlaw and I would be honored to assist you through the entire process, from initial evaluation and application to registry operations and ongoing management. If you’d like to explore the opportunity, feel free to reach out at jjnsolutions.com or contact me directly at todd@jjnsolutions.com.

The Sale That Matters One sale might change everything—but only if you’re still in the game when it happens. My first #domain sale was around 1999 or 2000 (I don’t remember the exact price). I sold FirstCenter.org to a church in Oregon through outbound email. Since then, I’ve sold names ranging from $20 to $180k. There have been ups and downs, but one thing has remained constant: I keep buying and I keep selling. This isn’t a maybe—I’m confident that one of these years, a handful of my hand regs will sell for $500k or more. Until then, I’ll keep pushing forward. Capital is flowing globally—from China to the UAE, Europe, the United States, and South America. Startups and mergers backed by serious money are willing to pay for strong, names. Five years ago, a $1 million domain sale felt rare—almost unbelievable. Now, it’s becoming part of the landscape. If you want to stay competitive, evolve your thinking. Spend time where founders and investors gather. Learn how they think, what they value, and why they’re willing to acquire a recently registered domain for life-changing money. The market is shifting in real time. What you knew this morning may already be outdated. This is just my perspective—but the direction is clear: things are evolving. And trends like AI and data infrastructure aren’t slowing down anytime soon. Even major players like Duke Energy are investing heavily—over $100 billion into data centers and related infrastructure. Stay in motion. The next sale could be the one that changes everything.

To the 18 Founders and Alternates I owe you all a deep amount of gratitude. Today, for the first time in 30 years, over $100 million worth of my domains are being activated. Without you, this mission, this movement, and this breakthrough would not be possible. You believed in your own abilities, and in what the Beanstalk Challenge could become. That belief is already paying off, and for some of you, it may be life-changing. You are the ones making this real. You’re the players on the field, moving this forward and showing the world what category-defining domains can actually do. I’m here to support you every step of the way. And I’m looking forward to what we build together. Don't believe me… Just watch. #BeanstalkChallenge #Domains #Startups
