"On Belarus Freedom Day, I celebrate the release of political prisoners this past year. But under the Lukashenka regime, Belarus continues to take new political prisoners and support Russia's war. The US must support a democratic & sovereign Belarus." -@SenatorShaheen
Today, we mark Freedom Day and the International Day of Solidarity with ⚪️🔴⚪️. More than a century ago, in 1918, Belarusians declared independence. Now, Belarus lives under dictatorship—but our fight for freedom continues. And with your support, we will win. #StandWithBelarus

March 25 — #BelarusFreedomDay. In Belarus, people are jailed for being Belarusian. Abroad, the pressure reaches through threats to family. The fear is real. But it has not won. We carry our sky with us. Today Belarusians across the U.S. are celebrating . Freedom lives within us.

Politician Mikalai Statkevich refused deportation after his release and has reportedly returned to Belarus. Every Belarusian has the right to live without repression and state terror in their own country. We wish Mikalai—a true hero of our people—strength, safety, and freedom.

Deep gratitude to Rep. Bill Keating @USRepKeating for his tireless advocacy and for highlighting the courage of @tsikhanouski_s. Your work gives hope to Belarus and its political prisoners. 🙏💛
Today I met Belarusian political activist Siarhei Tsikhanouski. My full statement: Today, I met with @tsikhanouski_s - just three months after his release from political imprisonment in Belarus. This is a man who just 100 days ago was living in complete solitary confinement, in horrific conditions, after being illegally detained.  His bravery and resilience should be an example to us all. As Belarus Caucus Co-Chair, I have worked for more than 5 years to help facilitate the release of Siarhei and the more than 1,300 political prisoners who remain behind bars. Siarhei is an example of courage, conviction, determination, and more than anything else – love of his homeland.  He has consistently stood up in defense of the values he and the entire Free Belarus movement support. I know we have Siarhei’s support as we continue to advocate for those who remain behind bars. While Siarhei was imprisoned, his wife, Sviatlana, advocated on his behalf and on behalf of all Belarusians who detest the brutal Lukashenka regime. In March 2020, as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Sviatlana testified before the Subcommittee in her first public interaction with the United States government. Then, and now, she continues the fight for a Free Belarus. I am so grateful that Siarhei has now rejoined her on this journey.

Back in DC — second @WhiteHouse meeting in two months. Insightful conversation with Special Assistant to the President & Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs Charles McLaughlin (following July’s mtg with DNSA Andy Baker). Grateful to @POTUS for his role in saving the lives of Belarusian political prisoners. Together with @tsikhanouski_s, we also met the co-chairs of the Free Belarus Caucus in Congress. Our message was clear: 🇺🇸 support for Belarus must stay bipartisan & principled.

Siarhei Tsikhanouski is the first Belarusian politician whom the new Trump administration met with at the White House
At the @WhiteHouse, I met with Special Assistant to @POTUS and Senior Director for European and Russian Affairs Charles McLaughlin. I thank President Trump for my freedom – and for his efforts to free 1,300 hostages of the Belarusian regime. Their release will be a victory for America and for a Free Belarus. We thank @USRepKeating for his strong support of democracy and human rights in Belarus. His words remind us that the fight for freedom continues—and that the U.S. stands with those unjustly imprisoned by the Lukashenka regime. Solidarity like this gives strength to our movement
Today, on the Day of the Political Prisoners in Belarus, I continue to demand the Lukashenka regime release the more than 1300 political prisoners held unjustly behind bars. Last week, I met with Tatsiana Khomich, the sister of detained opposition leader Maria Kalesnikava. The regime's weakness stems from the strength of individuals like Maria and Siarhei Tsikhanouski. The US stands in solidarity with political prisoners in Belarus and we will not rest until they are all released.

The first photo of former political prisoner Yury Zyankovich after his release. In the shot, the Belarusian is sitting with Deputy US Special Representative for Ukraine John Cole, who personally took Zyankovich to Lithuania. Yuriy Zyankovich, a lawyer who interrupted his career in the US and came to Belarus, his first homeland, after the protests began in 2020. The regime has brought more charges against him and sentenced him to more sentences, the most serious of which was alleged complicity in the attempted overthrow of Alyaksandr Lukashenka
