Amid health financing challenges, Africa must take ownership of its health systems. This approach does not imply isolation, as outbreaks such as #Ebola cross borders. #Health is a global public good that requires collective investment. Protecting the most vulnerable is crucial to safeguarding #GlobalHealth. Achieving health sovereignty in Africa depends on effective financing and clear priorities, even with limited resources. Join us at #AHAIC2027 to call for solidarity and decisive, reform-minded leadership across the continent. Africa faces a turning point with shifting geopolitics and shrinking aid. In this video, @daktari1 explains why bold action for health sovereignty matters. Health threats like #Ebola cross borders, so protecting the vulnerable protects us all. "Africa’s future depends on smarter financing, stronger systems, and courageous leadership. The path forward: set new priorities, invest locally, and lead with innovation. Meet Winnie Munduru. She isn't a doctor or a scientist. She is a Village Health Team member trained by @Amref_Uganda, helping communities in Terego District, Northern Uganda, to understand #Ebola, challenge misinformation, and stay protected. Her work is simple but powerful. ✔️One conversation can stop a rumour. ✔️One informed family can prevent transmission. ✔️One trusted voice can save lives. Across DRC-Uganda border points, Village Health Teams like Winnie are helping communities stay informed, prepared, and protected against #Ebola. At @Amref_Worldwide, we believe every outbreak begins in a community, and every successful response does too. #Amref4HealthSecurity #HealthSecurity

Primary Health Care (PHC) costing is not just a technical task; it is a powerful driver for budget credibility, smarter investment, and reliable health financing. When applied strategically, PHC costing gives decision-makers the leverage to direct resources where they matter most, maximise value from health providers, and build public trust through transparent, evidence-based budgets. This policy brief identifies five critical mistakes that continue to sabotage effective costing across Africa, even as tools, interest, and support grow. Insights are drawn from targeted literature and the International Primary Health Care Conference (ICPC 2025) in Ethiopia. Read more: amref.org/download/fixing-th… #Amref4PHC @WHO @AfricaCDC @WHOAFRO

Outbreaks thrive where response systems are underfunded. Speaking to @cgtnafrica, @daktari1 warned that funding gaps in the #Ebola response risk undermining critical activities such as community engagement, case detection, testing, contact tracing, and referral systems. “Without adequate resources, the virus can continue to spread undetected, making containment more difficult and increasing the risk of wider transmission. The threat of Ebola is not confined to the Democratic Republic of Congo or Uganda. In an interconnected world, health security anywhere depends on health security everywhere,” said Dr Gitahi. ⬇️ Watch the interview. 🔗 youtube.com/watch?v=sAflNwUO… #Amref4HealthSecurity #HealthSecurity @WHO @AfricaCDC @CDCgov @AHAIC_Amref

Outbreaks begin in communities, not hospitals. Community Health Promoters (CHPs) serve as the first line of defence. Providing them with accurate #Ebola information enables faster detection, safer response, and better protection for families. Such engagements build their capacity to prevent, identify, and respond to Ebola threats. Communities that are prepared are protected. #EbolaWareness @WHOAFRO @WHOKenya @MOH_Kenya @UNICEF @AfricaCDC
LIVE: Engaging the Front Line: The Role of CHPs in Ebola Preparedness and Response This webinar empowers CHPs with critical #Ebola knowledge and prevention skills, strengthen their role in preparedness and response, and celebrate outstanding CHPs and Community Health Units for their impact. Primary Health Care is where #HealthSecurity begins. This week, Member States, partners, and experts convened in Addis Ababa to shape a new continental coordination mechanism to accelerate Primary Health Care (#PHC) transformation across Africa. Detecting outbreaks early is key to keeping the world healthier and safe. We need to improve local monitoring, provide health workers with the right tools and information, and support fast-response teams to contain threats effectively. Strong health systems start in local communities, whether we are dealing with animal-to-human diseases or new pandemics. If we act early, respond fast, and invest wisely, we can stop outbreaks before they spread. #AHAIC2027 #AmrefEbolaResponse @RwandaHealth @WHOAFRO @MastercardFdn @GatesAfrica
You cannot stop an outbreak if you ignore where it begins. So how do we strengthen our ability to detect and respond to threats before they escalate into crises? Watch @daktari1 share his insights. ⬇️ #Ebola #Amref4HealthSecurity #HealthSecurity @WHO @AfricaCDC @CDCgov @AHAIC_Amref

Outbreaks do not stop at borders, and neither should preparedness. @Amref_Worldwide is supporting #Ebola preparedness and response efforts in affected and high-risk countries - Uganda, South Sudan, and Kenya, by strengthening community awareness, surveillance, infection prevention, and diagnostic capacity at points of entry.
