A landmark breakthrough in neuroscience from IIT Madras. The Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC), IIT Madras, has unveiled ANCHOR (Atlas of Neurochemical Characterisation of the Human Brainstem with 3D Reconstruction) — the world’s most detailed 3D atlas of the human brainstem at cell resolution. Developed using SGBC’s state-of-the-art brain imaging and computing platform, ANCHOR offers an unprecedented view of the human brainstem across different stages of life, from prenatal development to adulthood. The atlas maps over 200 brainstem nuclei and fibre tracts, providing valuable insights into the brain’s structure and function. Launched during the 3rd BRICS Neuroscience Symposium 2026, ANCHOR is now freely accessible to researchers and clinicians worldwide through the website: anchor.humanbrain.in, advancing open science and global collaboration. IIT Kanpur and @BSNLCorporate have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term framework for collaborative research, innovation, development, testing, deployment, and commercialization of next-generation telecom and digital technologies aligned with national priorities. The collaboration brings together IIT Kanpur’s research excellence and innovation ecosystem with BSNL’s nationwide telecom infrastructure and operational scale to accelerate indigenous technology development.
