Greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere set yet another record and there's "no end in sight," the @WMO reported Tuesday. CO2 at highest level in 3 to 5 million years.

Breaking the news! Breaking the news! Our trip to a metal world, the #MissionToPsyche, is now slated to launch on Friday, Oct. 13. 🤘
Don't be paranoid. It's not a Black Sabbath... it's because of weather conditions at @NASAKennedy. More info on the mission blog: go.nasa.gov/45qCd0T

The tall, white rocket emblazoned with the blue NASA insignia and orange-and-purple Psyche mission branding is flanked by booster rockets smudged with black char from previous launches. If you had “rooftop and community solar cost the same as utility solar” on your 2023 bingo card, congrats! Local solar is competitive! ilsr.org/investor-owned-util…#solarpower
Excited to share an updated paper on fossil fuel community preferences over the design of "just transition" assistance. I combine a novel sampling strategy with survey techniques for measuring multi-dimensional preferences.
Three primary findings: bit.ly/3DzZthz
🚨 Working paper 🚨
How does the design of climate policy influence its support in fossil fuel communities?
This paper overcomes challenges with measuring public opinion in these crucial regions by going to survey people directly.

One of these things is not like the others...
2023 is continuing its run of astonishing temperature records, on its way to what is now likely to become the first year more than 1.5 °C above our 1850-1900 baseline.

I hope @NWSL is planning on making a video that shows every goal from #DecisionDay in chronological order (5pm to 7:30pm ET) with a graphic on the side of the video showing the live standings with each goal.
I wonder what it will take for these Indonesian fires to get mass media attention? Thousands of fires, smoke plumes the size of France, tens of millions exposed to hazardous smoke, & the loss of crucial carbon stores. The Tenerife fires have had more coverage!

Today marks the first day of Earth Science Week! This year's theme is "Geoscience Innovating for Earth and People". Today's Focus Day is International Earthcache Day. Explore the world with this GPS scavenger hunt! #EarthScienceWeek
ALT Desert canyon in the background with the words "Earth Science Week" bolded in white overlaying the image. There is an American Geoscience Institute logo next to the lettering. Bellow the lettering there are the dates October 8-14: Geoscience Innovating for Earth and People and #EarthScienceWeek.

*pretend we're not one day late
ALT Two images of the Pillars of Creation, a star-forming region in space. At left is a near-infrared view taken by Webb’s NIRCam instrument. Three semi-transparent, rusty red-colored pillars rise from the bottom left to the top right. The background is cast in dark blue, and countless stars in yellow and white of all sizes speckle the entire scene. At right is a mid-infrared view taken by Webb’s MIRI instrument. This time, the pillars are in shades of gray-blue and take on the appearance of a ghostly hand reaching toward the right. The background glows orange-red. Scattered throughout the scene are just a few dozen white and blue stars. Some larger stars, embedded in the pillars, appear like red orbs. Compared to the NIRCam view, the MIRI pillars are denser and more opaque.
Congress needs a permanent solution to the Cottonwood decision, otherwise the Forest Service will be bogged down in red tape (sound familiar?) and unable to pursue effective wildfire mitigation projects.

NEW: Earth just broke its previous September heat record by an unprecedented margin. Climate scientist @hausfath called the leap “absolutely gobsmackingly bananas.”
