Since 2021, at least 7,700 civilians have been killed, more than 30,000 arrested, and 23,000 remain in detention. In Rakhine, ongoing violence, mass displacement, acute food insecurity, limited humanitarian assistance, and forced recruitment continue to prevail.
"Five years after the military coup, the conflict in #Myanmar shows no sign of ending," @UNHumanRights Assistant Secretary-General Ilze Brands Kehris told the @UN Human Rights Council. "Human rights and justice are crucial to resolving this crisis," she said at #HRC61

Women in Myanmar are proving that democracy and equality are inseparable. In a society long dominated by patriarchal structures, they are creating a new vision for what Myanmar could become. Inspiring stories of courage.
For Nang Moet Moet, General Secretary of the Women’s League of Burma, the role of women in the resistance is undeniable. In "Heritage and Hope," she recalls the days after February 1, 2021, when thousands flooded the streets in defiance of the generals. … instagr.am/p/DU4N1ezEiez/

Accountability
In meetings, interviews and impromptu encounters, Elders had one clear message at #MSC2026: there can be no global security without respect for the rule of international law, & an end to impunity for all who commit war crimes and human rights violations, no matter how powerful.

The Philippines faces a considerable risk of atrocity crimes. The government must ensure accountability for human rights violations by state agents, address the root causes of armed conflict, uphold its peace commitments, and tackle corruption head-on. r2pasiapacific.org/article/2…

Five years after a military coup, the people of Myanmar need to know that they are not alone in their fight for justice, democracy and human rights. The best way to show it is with ACTION. x.com/UN_SPExperts/status/20…

🇲🇲 #Myanmar: Today marks five years since Myanmar’s military seized power in February 2021. The rule of law has ceased to function, and courts now operate as extensions of military authority to suppress dissent. After half a decade under a military regime, judicial independence has collapsed, fair trial rights are routinely denied, and lawyers are criminalized for providing legal representation. The International Commission of Jurists (@ICJ_org) calls for the immediate restoration of civilian and constitutional rule grounded in the rule of law, and urges all States to deny any form of military support that enables ongoing serious human rights abuses and entrenched cycles of impunity. icj.org/myanmar-five-years-a…
