The ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system plans to launch mass public alerting capability via mobile devices this year - in Oregon in March and Washington in May. This is a milestone after years of effort from @PNSN1 at @UW and @uoregon in partnership with @USGS_ShakeAlert

321 years ago tonight (9 p.m. Jan. 26, 1700) a M~9 #Cascadia subduction earthquake rocked the west coast from #VancouverIsland to northern #CA.
The subducting Juan de Fuca Plate slipped as much as 20 m, and a large tsunami was generated.
