Through my work with the incredible Round Canopy Parachute Team - USA, I have had the privilege of helping preserve the history, traditions, and spirit of the airborne warriors who changed the course of human history. The young men of the 82nd and 101st Airborne did not know whether they would survive the night. Yet they willingly stepped into the darkness because they believed freedom was worth fighting for and, if necessary, dying for. It’s more than just a jump. Their courage helped save the world from tyranny and secured the blessings of liberty for generations that followed. As today’s soldiers, paratroopers, and citizens, we have a responsibility that extends far beyond remembrance. We must honor their sacrifice not only with words, ceremonies, and commemorations, but through our actions. Honored to participate in the Pegasus Bridge commemorative jump in Normandy, honoring the airborne troops who helped secure one of the first and most critical objectives of D-Day on June 6, 1944. It was a privilege to wear the maroon beret of the 19th Special Forces Group and the Civil Affairs patch while paying tribute to the brave men who landed here 82 years ago. As I descended over Normandy, I couldn’t help but think about the courage and sacrifice of those who jumped into history so that future generations could live in freedom.
