We’re fighting the New World Screwworm threat. We pushed NWS out of the US in 1966 — but for the first time in the modern area we have cases in Texas again. This is a direct result of the Darien Gap being breached in 2022 thanks to the reckless open border policies of Biden-Harris that allowed it to SURGE through Central America and hit Mexico by 2024. But we were ready. Since Day 1 under @POTUS: - $1.3 billion deployed to fight NWS - New sterile fly technologies - Moore Air Base production facility ($750M) underway in Texas - New dispersal sites operational - Metapa, Mexico facility opening this month — adding 100 million sterile flies Increased border surveillance, trapping, and targeted releases already in effect. Farm Security = National Security. We WILL eradicate this threat.

While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals. The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately. Watch for:     •    Draining or enlarging wounds     •    Maggots or egg masses in wounds     •    Signs of discomfort     •    Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area) Early detection is critical to protecting animal health. If you suspect NWS, report it right away to the Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or AnimalHealth@agr.georgia.gov

Georgia is taking proactive steps to keep New World Screwworm out of our state. In response to the recent detection in South Texas, enhanced interstate movement requirements for warm-blooded animals, including equine, livestock, and companion animals, are being put in place for animals entering Georgia from Texas. These measures are designed to protect animal health, strengthen biosecurity, and safeguard Georgia's No. 1 industry: agriculture. Read more ⬇️ bit.ly/4uLTAGW & bit.ly/4v2VanZ
