We’re fighting the New World Screwworm threat. We pushed NWS out of the US in 1966 — but for the first time in the modern area we have cases in Texas again. While there are no New World Screwworm cases in Georgia, we’re asking livestock and pet owners to keep a close watch on their animals. The most important thing you can do is know the signs and report suspected cases immediately. Watch for:     •    Draining or enlarging wounds     •    Maggots or egg masses in wounds     •    Signs of discomfort     •    Lesions in body openings (nose, ears, genitalia, umbilical area) Early detection is critical to protecting animal health.
