Mexico City and all federal authorities must uphold the right to protest for all groups and families demonstrating during the World Cup. Groups have been campaigning for the search and identification of their disappeared loved ones for years - work that is a legitimate form of human rights defense. This must be recognized, respected and protected. Guaranteeing the right to protest is an obligation of the Mexican State. Events surrounding the World Cup must point to humanity, not cruelty. #HumanityMustWin

As hostilities escalate between #Iran and #Israel once again, Amnesty reiterates its calls for a durable and genuine ceasefire & long-term solutions to protect human rights and address root causes. In #Lebanon, where a ceasefire never really took hold, fighting continues to take a devastating toll on civilians and Israeli troops have yet to withdraw from southern Lebanon. In a region long scarred by conflict, amidst long-standing impunity for crimes under international law, further escalation would endanger the lives of millions of civilians and leave them exposed to further atrocities.

Afghanistan: Reports of multiple women being arrested by the Taliban in Herat province for not adhering to their restrictive dress code are deeply alarming. It is a stark reminder of the continued crackdown on the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. Every woman has the right to choose what to wear, move freely, participate in public life, and live without fear or intimidation. The Taliban de facto authorities must immediately disclose the whereabouts of those detained, guarantee their safe return, and end practices that target women for their choice of dress. The international community must urgently increase pressure on the Taliban to end cycle of systematic repression of women and girls.
UNAMA is concerned over multiple arrests and detentions of women in Herat #Afghanistan for alleged non-compliance with dress requirements, which raises serious human rights concerns.

The death toll is now at 196. Congress and the international community must take immediate action to stop the U.S. military’s unconscionable campaign of extrajudicial killings at sea and push for accountability.
On May 27, at the direction of #SOUTHCOM commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. Two male narco-terrorists were killed during this action. No U.S. military forces were harmed. @DeptofWar #OpSouthernSpear

Executions in 2025 soared to the highest figure recorded by Amnesty International since 1981. Iran was the main driver behind the spike, doubling its 2024 figure, a dangerous trend as the authorities used the death penalty to instil fear and punish dissent. 🚨Once again, #Israel is using military force to stop solidarity activists from delivering aid to the occupied #Gaza Strip, all while continuing to commit #genocide and inflict immense suffering on Palestinian civilians there. 🚨Israel's cruel and shameless determination to crush solidarity efforts with Palestinians is aimed at tightening the grip of its unlawful blockade and isolating #Gaza from the rest of humanity. Cutting off essential supplies to civilians under occupation is a war crime. Silence over attacks on peaceful solidarity activists is indefensible. 🚨Decades of #impunity have fueled Israel’s ongoing atrocity crimes against Palestinians, including genocide, apartheid, and unlawful occupation. 🚨There are grave concerns for the safety of the activists on board. Amnesty International has previously documented the ill-treatment and abuse of activists detained aboard the #GlobalSumudFlotilla on previous missions.
